This is our 1st yr in Cub Scouts and our son started late (December). Its being held at a local elks club and its pot luck thats all we know. Can anyone tell us what typically goes on? Is this something that the parents/siblings just go too or is it common to invite grandparents/uncles etc? Is this the "big" event of the yr for cub scouts?

Customs vary from pack to pack, but with potlucks in our area, the more the merrier. Have Grandma and Grandpa toss in an extra salad and come and have some fun watching their boy get his awards! The whole idea is to surround each Cub with those that care about his accomplishments. I would think the operative word here is care. If his family cares enough to want to be there, make sure they get the invite.

Our pack grills out. We also had a herpetologist bring his reptilian buddies this year. Other packs we have been in have had each den do a skit or song that relates to the theme. It's supposed to be a party to celebrate the Cub Scout anniversary. If Gramma and Poppy would like to be invited to a school performance, bring 'em on over. Just tell your organizers so they can make sure to have an accurate head count.

It's usaully each year's annual banquest so is usually a big deal no matter what your pack does for it. Ask your CM and den leader about what to expect. Usually invitations are sent out of some sort- mostly relatives just come to ours when the boys move up to Boy scouts.

Most packs have as theme- by default its a celebration or birthday or even awards theme.

Some packs do all thier rank awardss and other awards. Some have outside entertainment. Reagrdelss it's usually a big pack event that everyone looks forward to and is very specail.

We just had our's this past Saturday. Anyone that wants to come is welcome. Our's is also potluck. We don't do a theme - it's a birthday party for us. This year we did Cub Scout Idol - kids did a talent show and we had 3 parents to be judges. The kids loved it and they did a GREAT job. We had grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, etc. There is always way too much food at these things too!
