bnelon44 17
It is acceptable for a counselor registered in one council to approve merit badges for Scouts in another. This is an important consideration especially where Scouts must seek scarce counselors in another area, or when they are away from home and want to continue advancing. Youth members do not meet one-on-one with adults. Sessions with counselors must take place where others can view the interaction, or the Scout must have a buddy: a friend, parent, guardian, brother, sister, or another Scout working on the same badge. Twocubdad 665
Um, we're talking about the boy's grandfather and aunt. I'm assuming the boy is spending time with family for the summer? I don't believe youth protection requires the boy to go find a buddy every time grandpa pulls out his bugle. My nine-year-old nephew is spending the week with us. If we want to spend some time working on his Webelos stuff do I have to go find another adult to sit in? Parent or guardian is always the exception to the two-deep rule. John-in-KC 311
Billy knows how to push Grandpa's and Aunty Beth's buttons. Trust me on that. Sooner or later, he has to approach Mr Smith and ask for a job. Let him learn how to meet and interact with strangers.
