gwd-scouter
The little boy came home one day, His smile big and bright. "I want to be a Cub Scout, Mom, The sign-ups are tonight." He joined that night and so began His early Scouting life. From Tiger Cubs to Webelos, And finally the Arrow of Light. The little boy came home one day And his Mother had no doubt. That the little boy had grown somehow, Her son the First Class Scout. Through the early ranks he flew, While learning Scouting things. But, his trail became more difficult, As he reached for Eagles wings. The little boys mother came home one day, but the boy was not about. She saw a young man in his place, Her son, the Eagle Scout. Now hes reached the final peak His sights set to the sky. The mother will look with tear-filled eyes, And watch her Eagle fly. I wrote this poem for my son who is sitting for his Eagle Board of Review tonight. I'm very proud of him.
Lisabob
That's lovely. Congratulations to you, and to your young man.
packsaddle
Tell him for me that I hope he can carry the good feeling of this accomplishment for a very long and productive life. And as for you, as my son tried to say for my birthday so very long ago when he was learning to speak, "Happy to You!, Happy to You!" These memories are just sooooo good. SctDad
I read this poem and I just have to say that my son almost made me cry on the way home tonight. We were talking about what group he would be in when his little brother joins. We also got to talking about how they bothe will be in the boy scout troop together. Then out of the blue he started talking how long it would take to get his Eagle. The thing that he said that made me feel good and want to cry was that he said "I hope that when I get my Eagle you are standing next to me." That boy just gets me sometimes.
