  1. 1. Do you always attend your council camp for summer camp?

The boys make the decision as to where to go.

    2. Do you feel obligated to support your council camp by attending summer camp there instead of going out of council? No, if the boys feel that something is lacking then thy wont choose it.

    3. Do your Scouts decide on which camp to go to or is it a given that you will attend your council camp?

At scoutcamp the troop gathers on Thursday night to discuss how the week is going. At this time starting with the youngest Scouts we dicuss whats important to them in a Scoutcamp and whats not. Our committe is then charged with finding camps within a radius and presenting them to the troop to vote.

    4. Do the adults in your troop have a say in the decision? If so why?

The adults try to keep the camps within a reasonable driving distance, usally within 4 hours. We also try to make sure the camps have programs for all those going.

  2. I earned my eagle 6 months before I turned 16 and wore it proudly. My parents presented me with a new uniform at 18 with the Eagle Knot. would I have continued to wear it? I think so. Saying that I jump forward in time to when I took over as Scoutmaster, the previous Sm wore the Eagle Rank badge. When asked why he responded that most boys dont know or care what the knot is and that the badge ment something. I dont wear it now but I also dont police the 18 to 21 year olds to remove theirs. I feel it says something to the boys when they see these young men staying around wearing the Eagle.

  3. Here in CNY there was another similar case. I took over the troop when said lad was life scout(10th grade), made summer camp with us as SPL, then dissapeared. Came back 12th grade to do project which supported his fire dept. (only used members of the FD who were in other Troops to help on project.) I spent weeks discussing the pros and cons with district Exec. and district Eagle BOR chairman and we decided that the boy met the requirements and that the cons werent worth the headaches of vetoing the Eagle Rank.

  4. Remind the boys that a scout is thrifty, a scout helps to pay his own way and that of others. We have had the same problems with fund raisers with only the same scouts and families showing up. It has gone to if you show up you get a share if you dont, you have to pay for it yourself. Who doesnt get tired of the few supporting the many. As far as the crossovers get the into Troop scout funds as soon as they become WII and invite them to help.

  5. Just finished James E West and the History of the BSA. Just a few thoughts. Where would we be with the American Boy Scouts and the other bands still around?( Although this book gives me the idea as why the Girl Scouts are ticked at us.) Could have a different founding father done what West did?

Another couple of books to read are Peater Applebaums book Scouts Honor and Cohrens Be Prepared.
