  1. The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

    My Confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up,bejeweled trees Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, "Merry Christmas" to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It dosen't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu. If people want a creche, its just fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for be Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I don't have no ides where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship Nick and Jessica and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where Nick and Jessica came from and where the

the America we knew went to.

In light of many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said,"I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools,to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentlemam He is, I believe He has calmly back out. How can we expect God to give us his blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone.

In light of recent events...terrorist attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare(she was murdered her body found recently)complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn,t spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem(Dr.Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he is talking about. And we said OK

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably,if we think about it long and hard enough,we can figure it out.I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wounder why the world's going to hell.Funny how we believe what the newspapers say,but question what the Bible says. Funney how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

    Are you laughing?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe,or what they will think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it...no one will know you did. But,if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in. My Best Regards.

    Honestly and respectfully,

    Ben Stein

I am sorry about the long post, but in light of all that has been said on this forum,I think it's time to stop and take a deep breath and rethink our values. We can debate this till the cows come home and there will still be block heads who will never get it.

I was diagnosed about eight years ago with Type 2. It will be a big change in your life style eating, excerise etc. but once you accept it and listen to your Dr. you learn to work with it.Get to a Certified Diabetes Educator they are a real big help. What worked for me might not be good for you.

I have been looking for menus or foods to take on hiking or camping trips. If anyone out there has a food list or menus it would be great. Good luck and don''t let it get you down.

  3.

When will they ever learn not to put food or snacks in their tents, bears can smell food a mile away. Hickory Run State Park has had three or four attacks this past summer and the area has been posted and the rangers have warned all camping groups about the bear problem. They have trapped seven or eight bears in the last few months and moved them.

  4. Try Chief Neckerchief, our troop had good luck with them very easy to work with.

  5. The best advice I can give you is get a good pair of boots, the trails are tough on your feet and ankles. NRS outfitting has a good selection. The last time I was to Northern Tier I bought a pair of river workboot, it was the best investment I made. Might be a bit expensive for some people at $69.95 but well worth it. They have a web site www.nrsweb.com

  6.

Our Troop is going to Goose Pond Scout Reservation. The boys always have a good time. They have a great program. They have an older boy program with whitewater, climbing and a high and low COPE course. The cost of camp is very affortable and camp is close to home where adults can come go as necessary. Boys feel very comfortable with camp.

  7. We have our troop number and logo on our trailer. Haven't had any concerns with theft or vandalism, it is parked in my yard.

As for putting the names of Eagle scouts on the trailer. We asked them if they wanted their names and year they made Eagle and they all said YES! We went to the committe and asked if it was ok and the committe had no problem with it, if thats what the boys wanted it was their trailer. Actually the younger scouts are looking forward to see their names on the trailer

  8. Hey LeRoy,

I know you are busy thinking up empty answers to all the questions, but you didn't answer Its Me question "What religion does the BSA discriminate against?"

The next thing the ACLU will try is to ban chaplains from the military.

I just cannot wait to read your posts, the only person who can talk in circles and never give a direct answer to any questions or an answer that makes any sense. Get a life.

  10. I would like to share the following with everyone:

Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event.

We received the following reply from the local TARGET management:

Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action groups, gay&lesbian causes, and education.

If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general do not meet their donation criteria, then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters and their response was the same. Thats their national policy.

Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the Marines to collect for Toys for Tots'at any of their stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families of employees who were called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage while they were on miltary service. Then as I dig further,TARGET is a French-owned corporation.

This was an e-mail sent to me. I can verfiy the the statment that TARGET made. This past summer our popcorn chair made a phone call to our local TARGET and asked if our troop could sell popcorn at their store and thats the same answer they gave us "that we do not meet their donation criteria.

If TARGET can not support Boy Scouts and American Veterans, they why should I and my family support thir stores by spending our hard earned American dollars and have their profits sent to France. Without the American Vets, where would France be today. Something to think about when you are out doing your shopping.

I would like to wish everone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
