Im an engineer with 17 years experience. It still on my resume and I have no plans of removing it. At the beginning of one interview the interviewer commented on how he wanted to meet an Eagle Scout.

Thank you all for the information and warm welcomes. There has been a gap in my life without scouting. I dont know why I thought I had to wait until I had a son and he was old enough to join before my return. Well, I guess its better late than never.

Its good to hear I can still earn my Brotherhood. I always regretted not doing so.

This new section is exactly what I need! I recently returned to scouting with my son and have just re-registered after a 21-year hiatus. I also plan on bringing my OA dues up to date.

As a youth I was an Ordeal member. After which I was concentrating on completing my Eagle requirements and then came college at which time I became inactive in all scouting activities. I never earned my Brotherhood.

My question is, what capacity as an adult, can I be involved with the OA? Am I still eligible to earn my Brotherhood?

At summer camp the riffle instructor used to sing the Great Ship after dinner in the mess hall. He was a tall man and used to jump up and hit the rafters of the mess hall with a great big boom! Everyone loved it when he would sing it.

I agree with the others. They should get their badges. Please do not back down. I fear if they do not receive their hard earned wolf badges they may become disheartened with scouts altogether and dropout.

Speaking of disheartened I hope that you do not become so yourself. You have created a wolf den where none existed and in doing so have introduced 6 boys to the world of scouting. You should be proud of what you have accomplished and the positive impact you have made on these boys.

I was having similar thoughts about switching packs, for various reasons a few months back. There is another very active pack in town but I decided to join the pack where my son attends school since the boys he goes to school with and plays sports with were at that pack.

Around the same time, I found this forum. Reading peoples posts enlightened me to the other side of the program, from the Leaders point of view. It when then I realized what the adult leaders did for me when I was a youth. Particularly one adult who without his guidance I may never have earned my Eagle.

Anyhow, I could have left and went to the other pack, but I decided to stay and try to make this pack better. Leaving would have benefited, one boy, my son. I hope with my staying a whole pack of boys will benefit in some way.

I do not think our pack has a crossover ceremony for Tigers.

Anyway from your responses he CAN switch for the summer activities, but does he HAVE TO switch? Can he still wear his Tiger uniform over the summer?

Since he is growing by leaps and bounds Im thinking of waiting as long as possible until making the switch.

Maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself but, when does a Tiger start to wear the blue Cub Scout uniform. My son should earn his Bobcat no later then May. Would he then switch to the blue Cub Scout uniform for the summer activities or wait until September?

Scouting may not be all things to all boys, however I think all boys benefit in some way from being involved with Scouting.

Bottom line, Cubscouts is for boys who like to have fun.

I work in the private sector. My boss has been great with letting me leave early for Scouting activities and sporting activities too. I coach soccer, basketball and tee ball.

It helps that my boss in an Eagle Scout, has a boy the same age as mine and is a den leader. So he is usually heading out the door for a scout activity the same time I am.

Gentlemen thank you for your input.

My profile should have said SM. I can tell you a little about the boy (15) he came into the Troop all ready Life rank with no Blue Cards he has moved here from another Council. The parents unfortunately dont remember the council but I have traced to him the Midwest. I have tried contacting that council but have not received any information yet. The boy has told me that in his old troop no one would listen to him and there were no PLC meetings or planning sessions. He has told me that he held Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader positions, this has not been verified. They basically just hung around the bldg. In our troop he has failed to show for any of these meetings. He told the members of the troop not to put him in any position since he wasnt interested and wouldnt do the job. Even Troop activities he shows up and then leaves right in the middle. The last excuse he used was he needed a break to go play some video games, so he just left (with his parents) and came back 4hrs later. The parents go along saying that it is his decision and they support him. The father achieved Eagle rank himself so that is why this is so puzzling. I have tried to schedule SM conference but usually hes a no show. He receives (including his parents) all newsletters and email info from troop weekly. Still we are going nowhere. The Troop committee is very supportive of all unit members. They have talked with the youth and are just as puzzled. So we are picking brains from every where to see what we can try to do to turn this situation around.

FOG, I remember this story also. I do not think it is a coincidence. I mainly only read this site. However, I have been unable to find the previous post. I will check some more.

Thanks everyone for the great dessert ideas. I am printing them out and keeping them for future reference.

Our B&G was this afternoon. We opted for the dirt pudding this year. I didnt have time to get the pot and etc. Nonetheless it came out great. Everyone received a certificate based on their dessert. We received the most earthy certificate.

Thank you all for enabling me to spend some quality time with my son. He had fun making the dessert and even more fun eating it.

We are having a dessert contest at our B & G dinner, males only no help from mothers. Does anyone have a simple dessert recipe that a tiger could do with a little help from Dad?

Im not looking for a winning recipe. I just want my son to participate.

Strange you should say that. I saw a show on the Outdoor channel a couple of weeks ago showing a boy on a special permit Elk hunt at the Double H Ranch.

I think some of the best marketing comes from word of mouth of those currently involved in scouting.

I am his unofficial assistant Den Leader now. I have offered my assistance and advice whenever asked or needed.

Next year? He has indicated that he is not going to be the Den Leader next year. Other obligations kept me from being Den Leader this year. However, I am seriously considering becoming Den Leader next year or Assistant Den Leader at the very least.

I understand and agree with all you. However, I am not the Den Leader. The Den Leader is a nice guy, but he is flying by the seat of pants. He signs off on everything without question.

I am trying to steer him in the right direction. We are making good progress on the Den Achievements, but the Go See Its are lagging. The way things are going is a little troubling. We already lost one boy and another only shows up intermittently. One mother was overheard saying she hopes her boys get bored of scouting and drop out!

I was at a non-scouting event and I heard a couple of mothers who wanted their sons in scouting but were disappointed with the experience at our pack. I told them to please give it another chance. I even suggested they try a different pack in town.
