  1. The ad was for a Lear Jet and it went something like this: Four states Three closings One merger and now one little league game. As I spent 6 hours in soccer sign-up for the second saturday this month. Then more hours contacting coaches about practice times and schedules. As I prepare for my up coming den season, my wife's girl scout meetings have already started. That little league game that Mr Lear Jet is going to is coached my someone else. Someone he doesn't know. That League is run entirely by volunteers and someone else likley took Jr to the game. Mr L. Jet wa
  2. Scoutingus, you write like a troll just trying to stir things up.
  3. Oops double post Nothing to see here, please keep moving. (This message has been edited by Its Me)
  4. Your approach is correct but your system is weighted too heavily towards your needs. Structure and management system are absolutes when looking for the next IBM but a scout troop is not a business. It is a youth development program. Concentrate on what your son's interests are. See how he and the other boys react to one another. Good web sites prove little in regards to your boys growth. You may think the leaders make Wal-Mart management system look shoty while your son thinks the other boys are braggarts
  5. I found the key to the Senior washroom. Check out what these guys are useing. http://jellycan.com/brozone/uk/royalthrone.jpg Classy!
  6. You are going to have to stop calling me Junior. I am now a full fledged Forum Member. Now do I get a key to the nicer washroom?
  7. Good replies. The link mentioned that most receipes are written for the 12" x deep, D.O. that will be the one I get. Thanks
  8. I signed up with 50megs.com for free we service but I would like a calendar feature. This is not offered through 50 megs. I have tried converting and outlook calendar and a Yahoo calendar to photo and word document and then uploading but have been unsuccesful. Any suggestion or known free web service with calendar featurs?
  9. Gee a private email message from someone who quotes the Cub Scout Leader Handbook. Now who could that be?
  10. Last year (wolf) I classified our campout where webelos were the color guards as the ourdoor flag ceremony.(This message has been edited by Its Me)
  11. Big_Dog that's good advice. I did happen to know that one, but it is about the limit of my knowledge of Dutch Ovens. I have used my wife's large and thick walled soup cauldron but after having to spend two hours cleaning after our last "experiment" she put the kibosh on using her stewing pot for camp fires. Thanks (This message has been edited by Its Me)
  12. Our den has done a Geo Cache search and several other dens and our troop has done some as well. It was fun but the elements of GPS were lost most of our wolves. I likely didn't present it as well as I could have. Maybe now that we are Bears we can take another stab at it. For those that aren't familiar: Geo Cache is the use of Global Positioning Systems to locate a container of simple treasures hidden by others. Typically a 4"x6"x12" ammo box is hidden off a wooded trail and then its longitude and latitude coordinates are posted on the Internet. For fun the box is located and an
  13. I am on the verge of buying a dutch oven for den and group outings. What size? Let's say 20 people, would 10 quarts do?
  14. I suspect that the lack of gay men at the highest level of BSA is the reason our iniforms lack flair.
  15. Look, Bob White and Eamonn(sp) are not the problem. They are like Rail Road tracks, you know where there are coming from you know where they are going and most likely that haven't been laid in 100 years. Jason OK is a problem. He is erratic, volatile and prone to lying. Actually the score 2-1 and the good guys are losing.
  16. Dude (BTW I like that name better) your are 27 and from your posts I would say an immature 27 at that. You don't need a scout troop. No, what you need are more personal in nature challenges and adventures. Let's be honest being a stay home dad in Oklahoma is great for your kids and for the bounding and relationship and all that other stuff. But you are afraid that you are missing something. That life is passing you by. Which it is. You feel that if you were in a troop then you could go camping and be outdoors and meet challenges. I would suggest another path. Pick one that leads t
  17. I will add to this dreadful topic that may well lead to the demise of Scouting and mankind. My wife has fully converted me. I was a convert of love but now it is by free will. I only like apple jelly on my PBJ's. Sigh! I am glad its out in the open.
  18. Cool dude, Dude. That sounds like an ambition plan to meet the demands of your son and his buddies. I applaud you for taking on the challenges of starting a youth group organization from scratch. I am sorry that you feel you must leave scouting in order to fulfill your son's fancy for the high adventure. Good luck in your new endeavor. All the best Its Me
  19. Give me their email. I have an attachment that I know has a virus in it. I will forward it to them. Sorry to hear that the GS leadership is so blind.
  20. Bob White wrote: "I believe the vast majority of BSA problems could be solved by Charter Organizations taking their responsibility to select responsible leaders more seriously." Bob, this seems to be your reoccurring thyme for all the problems of scouting. I find it difficult to believe that all the problems in scouting are related to the first line of volunteers running the programs. Councils, programs and charter organization all have a share in the responsibility to create and run a quality organization. Selecting better "volunteers" is at least an oxymoron and at best pipe dream.
  21. And the Drama Queen Award goes to........Eamon for feigning embitterment and resentment. Look if you wanted to go then just go. You got caught up in the emotions of some threads where you could not force your strong opinions on other opinionated posters (trolls). Now you want your leaving to resonate as some sort of statement on the lack of civility in the world of bulletin boards. Spare us. Just get back to what you do best, posting opinionated positions on whats wrong with today's scouting.
  22. I doubt that the religion thread holds the interests of youths. Better topics here and youth oriented web sties elsewhere will self govern 99.9% of the youths away from such broad theological discussions. The 0.1% participating are there because they sought out such discussions.
  23. Bob, why would it matter if it were a council event or a unit?
  24. State and federal attorneys are seeking to recover $14 million from the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America in connection with a forest fire that scorched more than 14,000 acres in the Uinta Mountains. The U.S. Attorney's Office and Utah Attorney General's Office filed separate lawsuits Tuesday, which allege a group of Boy Scouts caused the East Fork Fire in June 2002 after failing to take proper fire precautions. The suits, which give one side of a legal argument, are seeking to cover the cost of fighting the fire and rehabilitating the land. Utah law requires
  25. Canyon Campground is the best for what you need. It has showers and a laundry, plus a good store and its close to many good trails. The campgrounds are good to start and stop but I would hope that backcountry camping is your primary goal. As for rental equipment, I would look at your hometown and locally before going. Otherwise you are looking at a day or better of fitting and picking just to outfit the troop. We flew into Salt Lake and drove up. There are several good stores along the way for stocking up. Remember fuel, even cannister fuel cannot be transported in a plane.
