  9. the whole point of eagle projects is for the scout to take a turn at directing and leading a project...although there should always be adult supervision, the project is really suposed to be lead by the person doing the project eric
  10. i don't know, that could be a good thing; maybe being a scout might be a little more "cool" on the other hand, you loose sight of what scouting i about, snoring, belching, and farting...getting dirty and telling dirty jokes...this could change a lot of things eric
  11. our troop has had some problems with adults that get thrown in the deep end. (refer to the 'wagon on a backpacking thread') maybe it is a good thing; make sure you are really ready for the commitment before you jump in eric
  12. there's probably more people involved, but the level of involvement is not the same. seams like scouts care less and leaders care more.......... eric
  13. good for them...just wait till the next campout when it gets dirty, and infected...then they'll really have something to show off! eric
  14. we have several adults in our troop who don't even have kids who are active in the toop any more, and some who are more active then their kids. Although the devotion is great, it appears to me that it becomes a pissing contest between these adults over who is more "involved" and "commited" eric
  15. i'm not sure i agree with the ban...i think scouts should figure it out for themselves. I've been to summer camp several times, and there have been a couple things i have noticed about electronics toys with the scouts... for one: i used to bring things like cd players and palm pilots, but i found that i never used them at all but also for the kids who do use them, it is probably a good thing. I am thinking of one expirience where a few scouts got bored. and knowing the feeling, i know that that is not a good thing...they got bored, started messing arround, and winded up distroying
  16. As one of the scouts involved with this "incident" I have to add a few comments of my own: first: before we start arguing...where is the damage? I want to know what "Junior" claims to be destroyed about his beloved wagon two: the damage inflicted on the wagon (if any) was a direct result of his incompetence when it comes to backpacking because if he can't fit all of his stuff for ONE night in a backpack the how can he be expected to teach younger scouts how to efficiently "backpack"?!?! three: notice how I call this "BACKPACKING" because the troop permission slip does indeed cal
