  1. Yes WHEELER, there are many intelligent capable men and women who contribute greatly to society and lack a college education. That is one thing you have in common with them. You put your foot in it with Ayn Rand. She does not have her problems. She died in 1982 but you probably did not know that. She has been called a lot of things but never altruistic. She felt that was weakness and she hated weakness. She was an arrogant woman who trumpeted her atheism. It is indeed humorous but not surprising that you quote her. You might think she loved truth. I think she only loved Ayn Ra
  2. Hunter, you are on to something with WHEELER. He is an inveterate quote miner. He is not interested in deeper understanding of a text but only if he can use someone else's words to support his opinion. The fact that he uses Ayn Rand to support his dislike of higher education shows this process at work in his feeble analysis. Rand did share WHEELER's dismissive attitude toward the opinions of others - an ascerbic know-it-all who seemed to hate everyone. In that way, she also seems to share the WHEELER outlook. It seems inconceivable that WHEELER would quote her considering her unabashed at
  3. "Maybe another way of putting this is that access to information is not the same as understanding it or being able to put it into context. A real education, provided by good teachers, is necessary for that." I couldn't agree with your sentiment more. However, when it comes to a real education - Its all greek to WHEELER.
  4. A WHEELER post distilled to its single insightful comment. "Duh!"
  5. "Thanks. I meant that Custer DID set a bad example, therefore he is a good example for WHAT NOT TO DO. Yes, Hubris and stupidity led to his demise. I see the same hubris and stupidity here also that is leading the BSA program to its own demise and ultimately the demise of masculinity and manhood." Your posts are a good example of how NOT to have a fruitful discussion and further the lot of youth in this country. The hubris shown on this board lately has come from you.
  6. "To FirstPusk, I take it you are a Christian. If you are, you are doing the work of the devil. Do you obey God or do you obey men?" Well thank you. I would much rather be criticized by you than find favor by agreeing with a fool. I take it as a badge of honor. You criticize what you don't understand. You have contributed nothing of value to the scouting movement and have little if anything to offer. I do the work of the devil by telling you the truth. These women do a superb job. You are a bitter man that could not match their achievements. Instead of making specious accusation
  7. "It shows how we have been deceived in this country to accept leadership of women over us. The BSA has accepted women to be scoutmasters. This one part of the definition has shown that we are sorely deceived. This is the core of Feminism, to effeminize males." I've worked with many capable women who are Scoutmasters. They do a great job and I am proud to have trained a number of them. You aren't even in their league. I wouldn't have you as a leader in a troop.
  8. "Dunderheads is my creation meaning 'confused heads'." Yup. Trustworthy ol' WHEELER. From Webster's 1913 Dictionary (found on Hyperdictionary http://www.hyperdictionary.com/ ) Dunderhead \Dun"der*head`\, n. [Prov. Eng. also dunderpoll, from dunder, same as thunder.] A dunce; a numskull; a blockhead. --Beau. & Fl BTW, Custer lost his life because of excessive hubris and stupidity. Not exactly the role model I would use to impress the notion of "Be Prepared".
  9. Misanthropy and misogyny, when applied in conjunction pretty much define WHEELER.
  10. Ed, that tug you feel is your leg being pulled. Your post said "bing" instead of "being". The reference are to the film "Going My Way".
  11. Some guy is talking to the Pharisees, Sadducees and Judas. That guy must be pretty smart - he knows that truth is true and thats not false, honest. Scouts honor - which he does not have.
  12. "I must, however, agree about men bing the leaders of the church. That is biblical." No doubt that Bing was a man and great as Father O'Malley, but I thought that Barry Fitzgerald was actually the leader of the church and I am pretty sure none of this is in the Bible.
  13. I am sure a thread supporting PLESSY V. FERGUSON will be WHEELER's next post. He is a Neaderthal.
  14. "To participate any further in that school would have been sanctioning the things going on there and I could not do it. I voted with my feet. When you are not wanted, it is time to leave." I am certain that we are all going to miss you...we really are.
  15. I started as a Scoutmaster of my oldest boy's troop soon after he joined. He is now grown graduated and on his own. I and my colleagues here take the job of Scoutmaster as a serious and important task. We train boy leaders and the boys we train take up the reins when we are too feeble to continue. A number of my former scouts are serving in the military. They are fine young men that I am tremendously proud of and I pray for their safety. Is the BSA perfect? No. Are there things that I would like to change? Yes, and I try to work within the organization to change it. I have
  16. WHEELER posting on gravitas? Now that is funny. You are the Miller Lite of intellectual content - definitely less filling.
  17. "In the absence of intellectual content, the students resort to personal attacks, practicing with impunity the old fallacy of ad hominem, substituting insults for arguments..." It sounds more like Ayn Rand was talking about your posts. Considering her acid nature, I would deeply enjoy seeing a critique of your efforts on this board. Unfortuneately, she is long dead and can't argue about how her words have been used to (attempt to) support your half-baked ideas.
  18. "He's only misguided to because he doesn't like your kind." No, WHEELER doens't seem to like anyone he has run across here. You might be a bit misguided if you think otherwise.
  19. A man walks into a bar and orders a beer. He takes his first sip and sets it down. While he is looking around the bar, a monkey swings down and steals the pint of beer from him before he is able to stop the monkey. The man asks the barman who owns the monkey. The barman replies the piano player. The man walks over to the piano player and says "Do you know your monkey stole my beer." The pianist replies "No, but if you hum it, I'll play it."
  20. "Ah, as usual Sagan shows that he didn't have a clue. Bozo wasn't a real person..." FOG, we are talking about WHEELER here. His positions have very little to do with reality. Seems to me the analogy is quite apt. Laurie, you are quite welcome. Bozo, I'm sorry for the comparisons some will make between you and WHEELER.
  21. Laurie: You are the one that voted down the post The training of boys to be men... Dont take it personally. There is much to vote down in the typical WHEELER post. Scripture commands the training of men... Some folks are bit sensitive about careless quotation of Scripture. I think she has already schooled you on that - chapter and verse. Yet, you have voted this post down. If you really sought after truth, would you have voted this post down?? If you were really loyal to the original intent of the BSA, would you have voted this post down? All the rest of my posts you have voted dow
  22. It is clear that WHEELER does not really understand the program. His criticism of the program as "socialist" on the basis of a cursory reading of the citizenship in the world MB requirements proves his lack of understanding. We do not tell them to join the international communist conspiracy, to hate America or to kill Christians. The badge talks of international law and treaties, international organizations (including WOSM), international trade and communication. It is the kind of badge that truly broadens the horizons of many of the boys that take it. WHEELER you like to spout
  23. A neutron walks into a bar. "I'd like a beer" he says. The bartender promptly serves up a beer. "How much will that be?" asks the neutron. "For you?" replies the bartender, "no charge"
  24. "So, put in philosophical terms (a.k.a., Wheelism), one might say: If a wheel squeaks, and no one oils it, does it continue to squeak or will the wheel fall off" The wheels have fallen off of his arguments. "...So, while it might appear as if this Rooster is taking sides with the Old Grey Eagle and a few other birds around here, the truth is Ive just been involved in Scouting too long and like to make bad puns." Bad puns aside, I think the only other time you and I have agreed had something to do with Emeril. OGE, you and me all understand the difference that the BSA pro
