scottteng
Lest anyone assume that a Pie Iron is only for dessert I commend to you the grilled cheese sandwich in one or even better grilled cheese with ham or other meat of your choice. To say nothing of the wide variety of cheeses that may be melted therein. Turning a simple lunch into a gourmet repast. Why whole restaurant chains have been built on the concept(quiznos). theysawyoucomin'
search-------- rome pie iron mine even came with a book. Mostly we use apple and cherry pie filling with bread. Bring pizza dough and pepperoni and you can make calzones. they take about 15 minutes because the dough is raw. A pie with bread takes about ten minutes. Ps don't forget spam!!!!!!!!!!!!! resqman
Scrambled eggs in a zip bag? Write name on outside of quart sized ziptop bag with Sharpie Marker. Break 2 eggs into bag. Scramble eggs in bag by mashing bag and contents. Spinkle salt and pepper to taste. Add splash of milk if desired. Add pre-cooked bacon, pre-cooked sausage, grated cheese, diced onions, diced bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, diced ham, or other favorite omlette style fillings. Burp bag of any air and zip bag closed. Drop closed bag into pot of boiling water. Wait several minutes. Remove bag with tongs and check the eggs to see how cooked they are. (Caution: Chesse will keep the egss soft no matter how long you boil them.) If eggs are firm, open bag and eat with spoon. Throw away bag. Use boiled water to clean spoon. No pots to clean. SSScout
Search "courageous cookery". Super light weight camping. Tarzan Cooking: place roast right on coals, same for potatoes, etc. Fish out when you think they are done and cut off really burnt parts. Never tried it... Layer Cake Dinner: In a suitably big pan (preferably big, deep cast iron skillet or dutch oven) place the following in this order: One layer of bacon (Half pound or so) One layer ground beef( 2 pounds or so, crumbled) One layer potatoes (three or so big Idahoes, scubbed clean but not peeled. Cut out bad spots, slice 1/4 inch thick or so) One layer onions (peeled, sliced in rings, 1/4 inch thick) One layer carrots (three or more big ones, scrubbed clean, top and point off, sliced 1/4 inch thick. Do it at an angle if you feel gourmet...) Put skillet on bed of coals or medium fire, cover on. Wait 30 minutes. do not peek. Dutch oven, do not top coals, heat from below. Salt & pepper to taste. Catsup will only improve it. Barbecue sauce at your peril. Do not tell your cardiac surgeon. Sit back and regale your Scouts with tales of the past...
