  1. How do you deal with situations such as the following? 1) Overzealous parent wants her 13 year old son to "hurry up" and get every thing done to earn his Eagle so he will be "done" with scouting? 2) A scout who has come right out and said that his heart is not in scouting, he is only doing it because his parents want him to reach Eagle. He has supposedly changed his mind recently and does want the Eagle award himself, but has failed to show "scout spirit" in any form.
  2. We are looking at having a tie dying station at an upcoming camporee. Has anyone done this with a group before? Do you have recommendations on dyes to purchase and how much you would need to dye multiple shirts? We would like to apply the dye in squeeze bottles. Thanks!
  3. I checked out the backwoodsman website you recommended and will pass that on. That offers a lot of ideas. We had heard of some, such as cooking in the orange or onion, but were wondering if there were some ideas we hadn't heard of (and there are!). Thanks for the help.
  4. Any ideas for utensiless cooking or a good website? One of our crew members needs to prepare a meal with the 4 food groups and utensiless cooking. Thanks!

  6. That is the great thing about Venture Crew, a crew can be formed around almost any interest that your group has. Your crew members can work on advancements or may choose not too. If they like, the group can be primarily a social group. Our group enjoys a wide range of activities, so we mix outdoor activities with some indoor activities.

  8. Are patrol flags available for purchase? We are not able to get them through our council's shop. Ideas on how other patrols have made their own flags would also be appreciated.
  9. Pie Iron Chili-Cheese Cornbread Cornbread Mix 1/2 Cup Cheddar Cheese, Grated 1 Can Chopped Chilis Pour mixture into a well greased pie iron to about 1/3 full. Bake over low heat. Perfect Pie Iron Pizza 1 can Pillsbury Croissant Dough Pizza Sauce Mozzarella Cheese Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Onions, etc. Non-Stick Cooking Spray Spray 1/2 of pie iron. Cover bottom of pie iron with dough. Add Sauce, Cheese, & Toppings. Lay pie iron on hot coals "open faced" for about 5 minutes. Dough will rise and cheese will melt making a perfect pizza.
  10. Those instructions help a lot. I'm anxious to try it. I think it will be a hit!

  12. I just heard about cooking over a campfire or on a burner using a cream can. Has anyone done this? Or does anyone have any other unique cooking methods? These are the instructions I've heard. Place 2 qt. water or tomato juice in the cream can. Stand unhusked sweet corn on end in the bottom. Place carrots, cabbage, potatoes, & other vegetabels in mesh bags on top of the corn. Place the meat on the top (Polish sausage, chicken pieces, etc.) What I don't know are the cooking instructions. When to close the lid, how long to cook, any other tips. Has anyone don
  13. Thank you for your responses. We have also had favorable (enthusiastic) responses from a few additional camps we have checked with: Many Point (MN) Medicine Mountain (SD) Camp Cedars (NE)
  14. Thank you for the ideas. We have some enthusiastic kids in the crew and we don't want to lose that.
  15. Does anyone know of a good summer camp offering high adventure in the Midwest? The camp that our troop is considering attending said absolutely no girls in regard to the crew attending. Our crew went to Ben DeLatour in Colorado last summer. They all (boys and girls) enjoyed the climbing opportunities! We had no problems taking a co-ed group.
