le Voyageur 72
Just curious.... For those who have attended this camp, how big it the pond where their canoeing program is taught? And, what is your opinion of their canoeing merit badge program? And, what would you change, keep, or modify, or enhance?
Herms 10
Good camp. "Pond" is big enough to get the boating done. Didn't have any boys work on canoeing last year so not sure of the program. Would improve the counselors at the Handycraft Lodge and the Scout Craft (specifically Pioneering).
le Voyageur 72
Thanks.... Was considering submitting an app to work their Canoeing MB program this summer, and was needing to know a few details to build a program. However, things have change, and I'll be back at my traditional haunts on the New...
desertrat77 1144
My info is many years old, but "pond" is indeed the best description of the canoeing area (unless they've built a bigger like since).
le Voyageur 72
That's what I was afraid of. I earned my Canoeing MB back in 64 at Geronimo. Sad, that there's been no development to take their aquatics programs to the next level, such as a canoe, or aquatic base at nearby Lake Mary.
asichacker 10
BAD CAMP! All caps, italics, bold and underscored. Last summer they had an intestinal bug for at least 4 weeks, the week my stepson was there and 3 weeks prior. Local health officials couldn't locate the source, but they would not close the camp either. My guess, how about the leach field between the mess hall and the pool. I'm REALLY glad he's not able to go this year. The Troop moved the camp two weeks farther into the summer...and he has to travel cross country to spend the summer with his Dad. le Voyageur 72
I've a fair feeling where the problem is at for that bug.... However, the Grand Canyon Council is free to contact me for ideals on new high adventure programs in their area which would grow their summer camping venue.
