mjengels
Hi we are new to Boy Scouts. I was wondering how does someone become a Merit Badge Counclor. Is there a course to take, training what are the requirements? Thank you
Gold Winger
You are supposed to have knowledge of the subject either from a professional interest or as a hobby, you need to do Youth Protection and then register with your council as an MB counselor. There is Merit Badge Counselor training but I don't know it is universally offered.
scottteng
MB counselor training is offered by the district advancement chairperson it is the only training not offered by the training committee. Now you know who to call. Our district advancement chair will even come do an at your location one for a troop. She does reserve the right to have others from your district come in addition to your troop.
ScoutNut
You will need to fill out a BSA Merit Badge Counselor Application - http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34405.pdf And a new Adult Application - http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/28-501.pdf When you hand these in to your Council offices, ask them when the next Merit Badge Counselor training will be.
