Life Scout Ageing Out

We have a Life Scout who will be aging out this month. ANy ideas about recognition for him?

If he has been active, using the scoutmaster minute to talk about the great example he has set for those that come after him would be appropriate, and then have some refreshments.

I have told plenty of boys in this situation that there is nothing wrong or dishonorable with leaving scouting at the rank of Life. I think the celebration mentioned above is appropriate if the boy did set that good example.

Our Troop is in the habit of giving staves of onor to scouts and scouters for such ocassions.

I like the idea of giving him a stave. You could also do a review of his scouting career, the date he started, the first patrol he was in, who was the patrol leader, what was the patrol cheer, what positions did he hold? What campouts, memorable events was he on and other notable dates. Emphasize what he has done for himself and the troop. Under no circumstances should there be any refence about not being Eagle, this should be about what he has done, not what he didnt do.

Maybe it would be good to have a "crossing over" ceremony for all Scouts who are "aging out," regardless of rank--it could include presenting them with an adult leader application.

I like the idea of the crossing over ceremony. Present them with a adult leader application, and maybe the appropriate badge of office, ASM, CM, etc..
