  1. My son's Pack completed the God and Me program last year at the church that sponsors our Pack. My son could not take part due to the time the pastor was able to lead the program. We chose to wait until this year and recruited his sunday school teacher (a great friend of ours) to be his leader. Our son met with our pastor last week and he signed off on the application....mailed it off to PRAY.

Looking forward to the medal presentation at our chuch in a couple of weeks.

  2. First, read this article:

    http://www.heraldsun.com.au/lifestyle/the-other-side/central-intelligence-agency-declassifies-top-secret-recipe-for-invisible-ink/story-e6frfhk6-1226042005920

Now....remember in the Wolf Book how it teaches the Cub how to make invisible ink???

    WOLF SCOUT ELECTIVES

    1. IT'S A SECRET

    1. Use a secret code.

    2. Write to a friend in invisible "ink"

    3. "Write" your name using American Sign Language. People who are deaf use this language.

    4. Use 12 American Indian signs to tell a story.

    Hmmmmmmm.

    :)

  3. I don't really understand how unionized public workers......who direct money to elect their bosses or to re-elect their bosses.....are fair to taxpayers but you folks have already argued the pro-union vs. anti-union points well.

My main issue with the Wisconsin situation is the state senators who have left for Illinois. IMO, their actions are beyond horrible and could put the foundation of our democracy at danger of failing. The people of Wisconsin voted in the current government and these folks are sabotaging the process by their actions. I really hope they have not opened Pandora's box.

  4. A couple of years ago when my son was a Tiger his den was doing science projects. One the first things they did was to see what would happen when they somebody puts mentos (I think that was what it was) in a soft drink. Now....you have to know my son....he is the kid who just HAS to be first. The first in line, the first to put his hands on something when he is not supposed to touch it, etc. I am sure you all know those kids.

Anyway, the leader puts the stuff down in the 2 liter soft drink and my son promptly runs to it an looks down into the bottle.....after the big explosion of Pepsi-Cola drenches him we all (other than my son) laugh out loud. Leaders still get a kick out of that story.

  5. I am a den leader for a Bear den and we are going to cover my subdivision for Scouting for Food. This is a typical subdivision with homes on 1/3 to 1/2 acre lots....is there a average number of homes that you have seen a couple of Cub Scouts cover as they canvass a neighborhood? Just trying to organize and split my group up...with proper adult guidance of course.

  6. Anybody else do this......you are feeling good about getting ready for the next Scout meeting or just want to get a Scouting fix so you go to Scouting.org and instantly feel deflated.

I can't tell you exactly what I want from the BSA website but I know I am not getting it.

  7. I find this interesting.....it used to be with me that if a football game or a college basketball game was one TV I was in front of it. Now......If I am not getting ready for the next den meeting and/or Pack outing, helping my son with his Scout projects, or exploring the world of scouting on-line I might consider watching the game.

What is it about Scouting that gets you hooked like this? Honestly, it is a little weird to me that I have become like this. I am not obsessed (no really...I am not) but I sure believe in the program.

  8. I just have to laugh because I deal with this too....my son being the biggest culprit.

Last year my wife made a great "talking stick" for me to use as a new den leader....you guessed it....the boy's saw it as a cool new weapon to torment their imagined enemies.

Yesterday we have a great geocaching event......kids start swinging sticks before we get started and as we marched through the woods even more sticks were found.

I don't remember being into sticks when I was 8.....LOL.

  9. "Robert McTaggart, the Cubmaster for Pack 70, said Langbert will be allowed to continue as a popcorn fundraiser. That position is not considered a leadership role and can be held by a volunteer."

This sort of cracked me up......Whatever you do....don't LOSE the Popcorn Coordinator!

  10. A protestant church in Charlotte is refusing to allow a Morman couple to be leaders in the church sponsored pack.

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/10/19/1771940/church-mormons-cant-lead-scouts.html

imo, The church owns the pack and allow who they want to be leaders. Personally, I think they are being short-sighted. My question is......in practice, do Morman sponsored Packs/Troops allow non-Mormans as leaders?(This message has been edited by AlamanceScouter)

  11. Welcome Spoon....where are you located?

If I could get scouting.org to come up I would give you a good link for your Bear Den stuff. Basically, you have the entire year laid out for you with some pretty good meeting plans.

Also, just spend some time on this site....it folks here are great and very knowledgeable.
