  1. ...I actually got a package in the mail today...which I had forgotten about. Earlier this month, I sent an email to ScoutStuff inquiring as to a certain interpreter strip.

They said they would look into in.

A couple days later, they called, asked what language, and how many I needed. With that they asked for my CC info and said 2 - 4 weeks.

So today,,,I got the package with 4 brand new interpreter strips....custom made by BSA.

$7 each...but I got them and pretty certain no one else has this language.

Collecting? ....Nope...speaking it and corr responding in it as well.

    Danki!

(I'm thinking I may have the only 4 BSA interpreter strips of this language. Cool :-))

  2. ...and now I know why my wife wanted my password to post something! Changed my password and told her to get her own user I'd ...I'm not having her post about women's stuff (not against them mind you...).

Ok...I'm gonna stop while I'm behind and have my foot firmly planted in my mouth.

  3. Eagle92,

I hear what you are saying, but looking a little further, I found:

BSA International Webpage - "An emblem of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the World Crest may be worn by all registered youth members and adult leaders as a symbol of their membership in a worldwide Scouting brotherhood."

But...I'm thinking that Mike Walton has a lock on it where he states...:In 1991, the BSA once again changed the policy over the objections of many local councils, whose volunteers and professionals had grown to respect the World Crest and what it stood for. The present policy is that the patch WILL BE WORN BY ALL YOUTH MEMBERS AND BY ALL ADULTS, VOLUNTEER OR PROFESSIONAL, AS A SIGN OF WORLD BROTHERHOOD AND UNITY WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCOUTING COMMUNITY." This comes from... http://www.scoutinsignia.com/crest.htm

    So bottom line...

    It is required.

    Thanks for the help.

  4. I'm not going to take a stand either way on this issue as I don't know enough.

But...I did just hear that a bit of new information on the background info has surfaced in the last 24 hours or so. It is quite eye opening.

    Peace...S.

  5. I see that they have bathing suits out now.

    How about women's bathing suits?

I would not dare show up in a bikini (again) as it appears to be totally taboo. (Regardless of the fact that the program guidelines never mentioned anything...I'll let that drop.

But the fact of the matter is that if BSA is stating what will work and what will not...how about give us an option instead of trying to guess based on vague guidelines...."What will work" and "What will not"

    Thanks and peace all ;-)

  6. I've gotta echo what Oak Tree stated in substance...that it's a bit of a forensic search to locate local councils and districts to see IF the have program offerings that might be of interest to our units.

Again...geographic boundaries which are unknown and councils which we don't know are local neighbors makes the research difficult.

I don't knock the scouts doing the searches, but what about, Area training, Adult Regional training, and other WB course offerings?

Bottom line - I would reall like to see the ability for scouts and scouters to interact on an Inter-council, area, region basis to increase scouting on not just the extremely local basis,

  7. I'm a bit confused. Help me out guys.

BSA Insignia Guide states for the "World Crest Patch"...May be worn by all members of Scouting to symbolize their membership in the World Scouting movement.

But the Scoutstuff.org webpage with that patch has it listed under "required" patches and states...Part of the Official Scout Uniform worn by all members of Scouting as a symbol of world brotherhood."

On the Uniform Inspection sheets there is no indication that the World Crest is an "optional" patch.

So in a recent Scout Uniform inspection, a number of scouts had points deducted for not having that patch on. There is no formal policy by the Troop that the Scouts must have that patch.

So I was talking with some of the moms and we looked it up.

It seems that if a unit has not designated, then it's up to the BSA documentation and would seem BSA Insignia guide would win out over what the Scoutstuff website states.

How about helping us out. Thanks!

  8. It is obvious that a council can only sponsor so many activities.

Additionally, Woodbadge may only be held 1x a year or less and yet there are still interested parties that want to pursue Woodbadge.

Some councils off international events, while others do not.

In my experience, it is a challenge to find all of the surrounding councils, review their websites, and try to find activities the youth may be interested in,

That is not to mention "Area" or "Regional" events that may be taking place.

In your honest opinion, how do you find these opportunities? I have not found any websites that offer Jo that information, nor have any other mom's I know.

The Southern Region has a website, but it is all but defunct.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks...Scouter

  9. Kd7kip...I identified with the trophies. Even more.., I remember as a kid that I had to "Try Out" for softball. Not anymore...no discrimination..all kids get on a team and many leagues don't keep score, they just play, but at the end of the season, they all get Trophies.

In regards ... To the "What do we get for attending?"...I have to admit I have a shoebox of those that don't really mean much...EXCEPT my "Northern Lights Council (North Dakota) KLONDIKE Derby Patch". Cold...we all qualified for the sub zero patch during the day. That's a keeper ;-)

  10. Kd7kip...

My opinion is that as a culture, scouts included, we have moved from much less recognition to much more recognition.

    Fewer patches > many patches

    Fewer recognitions > more recognitions

    Fewer awards > more awards

It seems more has become better. However ( my opinion only)...

    > Does recognizing everything with an award or patch diminish the significance of milestone awards?

    > And a movie quote..."...When everyone becomes super, no one will be!" - The Incredibles (Yeah...I know it's just a movie...but it does make me sit back and think).

Peace to you...I do wonder about what you are thinking as well. Thanks for posting.

  11. Disclaimer: Do not attack me personally for inquiring. I am curious as to how BSA is working towards further integrating their programs. I have Not read any information stating that the current Eagle Award will be made co-ed, I do admire and respect all scouts - regardless of gender. I am neither advocating for OR against co-ed Eagle Scouts. I realize that this inquiry may be controversial - thus the disclaimer. Tiny, tiny print...Friendly, courteous, kind, etc :-)

Programs and co-ed status and awards / honor recognitions offerings:

    Sea Scouts - Co-ed. (Quartermaster Awd + others, Boys...Eagle (?) - don't know

Venturing. - Co-ed (Silver Award + others, Boys can get Eagle

    Exploring. - Co-ed. (All Awards)

    LFL. - Co-ed (All awards)

Boy Scouts - Co-ed leaders. (All awards - leaders)

OA. - Co-ed leaders (All honors + awards)

Fact - The BSA is offering more programs to girls and women than it previously has.

Fact - Many foreign countries are or have evolved to have 100% equally co-ed programs.

Questions - Do you see the BSA eventually offering the Eagle Scout to any co-ed programs or extending "Boy Scouts to a "Scouting" position and fully integrating regardless of gender?

    What are you thoughts?

  12. The girls love the patches. It can be a really social thing comparing patches. The Girl Scouts have a lot of creative, imaginative, and pretty patches for the scouts.

Supposed to...no idea, but girls want to.

Where to put em. How about a tote bag. They make them in Canvas and I've seen some troops decorate and put names on as an activity. (I think Michaels and JoAnns Fabric sell the for next to nothing) I think they are canvas or heavy linen or something.

By the way...you rock for sewing all those patches on! I know your daughter appreciates it.

Good luck and have a super day,

    Scouter.
