  1. Great stuff. I am new to this job, and have been "Trained" already. I will be the only UC for my area. I will have 3 Scout Troops, and 1 very large pack to deal with. I was introduced already by my DC. He and I had the chance to do some good talking already, and he's a great guy. I have been in contact already, but as an ASM to the other Troops and Pack in my area, but have to get on the ball to ask to visit. I also plan to go camping if I am invited. One of my main goals is to find out what training the troops ned, and see about getting a training team down to give course. IOLS, BALOO et
  2. Moose, thanks. I am only offering to help. Not forcing anything. The troop I'm dealing with is already a hard case. Wanting to do things the non BSA way. Anyway, I expect things to be different once the SM and the CC is gone.
  3. I am a new UC. Been trained, but now official. I contacted my first unit, and of course they are one that has been asking for support for a long time. I offer it, and they throw a fit about wanting it their way, complaining that Council is getting in their business.. ?????
  4. I like silly stuff, but find this a bit over their top. Was at our SAC, and people were wearing them in full uniform. I was shocked. But that's their problem. I'll wear mine as they are...
  5. I've seen this past weekend at a Council Conference, people wearing beads with critters instead of beads on them?
  6. Congrates fellow Bobwhite. I got beaded this past weekend..
  7. The Light weight synthetic t-shirt are the way to go. But true they do hang on the oder. I have a few expensive t-shirts made in Sweden that have silver thread in them. No more oder. As for cleaning Sweat rings, try vinegar. Also works on leather boots. gets rid of the ring.
  8. I ordered myself one of my Council Fleece jackets. It already has a Council patch on the left chest area. I added a patch I had made up on the right chest pocket. My WB Totem. Anyway, It's not an official jacket for the BSA. So I can get away with it. On the other had, I try to live 110% by the uniform guide. So the boys get the right impression.
  9. Same here Seattlepioneer. Great to see adults wearing what they earned while in Scouting. The boys get to see this, and see that that adult understands a bit better what they are going through.
  10. Eagle707. I think that there is already a knot the boys should be reaching for. And that the Eagle. I think adding even more little things is a bit too much. Starting to sound like an everybody wins sporting event. Where no one wins the event, but everyone gets a trophy. ????? I think that the boys trying to reach Eagle should be award enough. Like the AOL as a Cub. Funny thing I did see the other night was a boy from another troop who's earned his AOL, and was wearing the Knot instead of the AOL patch below his pocket?? But I'm just an ASM.
  11. I would suggest you always align with the Shoulder. This way it is presented correctly on the arm.
  12. Have to agree about the books. Adult Education should be a very important issue with the BSA. There's one book I've been trying to obtain for several months now, but can't get it through my normal connections due to my living in Europe. "A Scout Leader's Guide to Youth Leadership Training: Working the Patrol Method" http://www.amazon.com/Scout-Leaders-Guide-Leadership-Training/dp/B0041O9PUM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1299776135&sr=8-1 They won't ship to me this book???
  13. Not where I am.. I was chosen, and I am as far away from my council as I can be. And there are others even farther. I'm 6 hours. But no click. No good ol'boys. But like scouting a lot of the Usual Suspects.. I'm becoming one of those. But my Council works hard to make sure that everyone gets involved. Seems to me there's more of the old boys club in the States..
  14. It's a nice shirt. I also just got my fleece. Also a great looking Council jkt. But my new jac Shirt is the Cat's Wiskers..
  15. GM, I can see what your saying. Working with the adults is one thing, but with the kids is another. And I believe we must set the example.
  16. Very good point. Only made in the USA would be a great start..
  17. Have to agree with the paper work on a CD. All of it in fact. MB Books on line or CD would be great too. I'd also like to se the Polo Activity shirts brought back. I'd also like to see the first model Boy's Plaid Wool jac shirt brought back. Standard Patrol Flags would also be great. I'd like to see them develop a wire ringed FieldBook. Powderhorn patch.
  18. Trousers without the mid-leg zips.I have shorts. I like having a small leg pocket, but not the large ones. A BSA Tropical Hat. Something along the lines of the boonie hat. But without the webbing. Standard BSA Olive Knit Cap. A proper SM Handbook. With TLT inside. Full size Neckers. Better quality BSA Knife. I broke one of the new ones first time using it. But my original one is still going strong.
  19. I like the new ones because they are well made and dry very quickly. But the older ones look so much better. I have one that I found at teh scout shop in my size. Anyway, any new news about the new scout shirt?
  20. I've seen that one myself already Nike. You know J.P. Meier, he was wearing his with the OA Flap sewn on at Kandersteg..
  21. Eagle92, good question.. they should have changed it to OD like the rest... Back on subject. I have a box full of the old BSA parches in the Scout Box. I can sew those on if and when the letter fall off..
  22. Anyone now any more information about a new shirt coming out? I saw where the sleeve pocket was coming off.. Hurah!
  23. I haven't see any problems with the new shirts. And i have ordered a lot of them for the Troop.
