  1. As cubmaster I lead the first 2 tiger meetings. Scouts can be overwhelming when you dont know what you are getting yourself in to. I explain how the journey from tiger to eagle is one of separation in many ways. When the boys become boy scouts the parent is not nearly as involved. I also tell them many of the things that make a good cubmaster dont make a good scoutmaster (i.e. get out of the way). And than I quote a study that says, by the time your son turns 10 he will have spent half of the time he will with you his entire life cherish it now. Get involved. All the moms and dads watching th
  2. What year did the council patches change from the white text on red to the more colorful graphic council patches. thanks

  4. While traveling my son and I visited another council's scout shop. The woman behind the counter had several knots on. tiger, den, cubmaster etc... I knew right away before even talking to her she would know most if not all of my cub scout questions. and she did. her position patch was scout shop employee and her knots were completely unrelated to her position. but I'm glad she had them on.
  5. Last year we had 16 new tigers. we split them into Den 6 and Den 7. we ended up doing many things such as go se its together. and the term tiger den meeting became confusing. did it mean all tigers, or just den 6 etc... This year we have 18 new tigers and they are all den 1. Our old den 1 crossed over last year. We are using patrol patches to split the tigers this year. so we have the Den 1 Rattlesnakes and Den 1 Scorpions. the young boys love the animal patches and seem to bond more with them than a number just my 2 cents.
  6. Because we are in a smaller space this month we will talk about Citizenship and play voting games. Yes a sit down game!!! We will have an election between candy bars Twix and Kit Kat. Id like two of you to volunteer to be campaign mangers, one for each bar. (wearing twix and kit kat t-shirts) You will each lobby the boys to vote for your candidate and answer questions. I will prepare you with talking points. We will have several votes and the boys will also have to vote in the den for representatives. We will have: A sampling poll A weighted vote by den population (hou
  7. Where and how do most leaders receive their knots? Im specifically thinking Cub Scout den leaders. Do you present them in front of the boys? At a pack committee meeting? Thanks
  8. Just heard Bugling will continue to be its own merit badge. excellent news!!
  9. We are planning a district cub scout recruitment event at the local mall. Anyone have experience putting on an event like this? Obviously we will have people there to answer questions and pass out information. What have you done to make the event more fun and inviting? Thanks in advance -mark niehaus
  10. As a Cub Scout leader and a professional trumpet player this development saddens me. I have played the bugle at our pack meetings as well as district and counsel events. The response is always the same. I cant believe how much the bugle added to the ceremony Live music does that; it can make a routine, perfunctory event feel special. Currently the Department of Veterans Affairs is expecting more than 1/2 million veterans to pass every year for the next 7 years. And in 2000 Congress passed legislation stating Veterans had a right to at least 2 uniformed military people to fold the flag
