  1. I'm with sctmom. I'm a den leader & as well as the only parent in our family who can attend Scout functions with my son. If I'm at a Scout function, I'm always in uniform. I wear my brag ribbon at Pack Meetings & District Meetings. I choose not to wear the ribbons for Den Meetings because it's one less thing to have dangling around my neck while chasing down my rowdy boys. As I told one of my fellow leaders, if I don't wear my ribbon at Pack Meetings, then when would I? At the grocery store? My ribbon is slowly growing with my son. It has 2 rank pins plus the BSA Family Pin.
  2. My Wolf den conservation project this year is for each Cub to collect 2 paper sacks filled with recyclable items to be donated to the local children's museum craft center. The museum has a wish list of certain household items that usually end up in the trash (egg cartons, TP roll holders, bottle caps, yogurt cups, styrofoam trays, berry baskets, etc.).
  3. I use a lot of clip art in my newsletters to my parents. I usually have pretty good luck finding what I need from www.deja.com and Yahoo! I suggest entering your search as: "twilight camp" clipart. One nice feature of deja is that you can click on the "Images" tab and bypass the list of search results. You can also check out www.kidsdomain.com. Don't forget to check the clip art on this site.
  4. I heard in passing this morning that there are plans to issue some new belt loop & pin awards? Just curious, does anyone have firm info on this?

    Uniform Costs

My son & I just graduated from the Tiger Cub rank. I, too, am dismayed at the high cost of the uniforms, especially considering that I am in the process of purchasing a Cub Scout uniform & a den leader uniform. To ease the burden on my checking account I tried hunting for uniform pieces at our local Good Will & Salvation Army stores. Ironically I can't find anything now whereas there was plenty of scouting inventory during Halloween. I found some success via e-Bay. I was able to outfit my son with used uniform pieces that I bid & won on e-Bay. I found his shirt (with a fe
  6. I have a handmade poster that has the Law on one side & the Promise on the other. I brought it to each meeting & we read aloud one or the other during our opening. Repetition is the key & eventually the boys get it. I found a cute fill-in-the blank for the Bobcat trail that the boys did as a busy activity for one meeting. See http://www.creighton.edu/~bsteph/pack114/funpages/bobcat1.html
  7. I'm a 1st year den leader & I'm trying to get up to speed on everything but the learning curve is pretty big! My Tiger Cubs received their TC badge at B&G and have since earned the Bobcat badge, which they will receive tonight. I overheard one seasoned scout mom say how she won't sew her son's Bobcat badge onto his uniform until he does, I think, 4 unsolicited good turns. After each good turn, her son gets to rotate his badge 90 degrees and when it comes full circle it will be sewn onto the uniform. This is news to me. Are the "good turns" just good deeds or do they amount t
  8. Well, we survived family camping with the baby. The baby wasn't too keen about camping on our first day but she got into the swing of things the following days. A baby backpack was especially useful while packing & unpacking gear . . . as long as someone else was around to pick up anything on the ground. The downside is that the pack kept pinching a shoulder nerve & I would lose a little feeling in one arm, so a trip back to the house was made on Day 2 to get the stroller. There were plenty of scout moms willing to hold the baby so that I could eat or help one of my Cubs. Agai
  9. Thanks, Sctmom, for the tip!! The website is http://www.camp-a-roo.com/babycamp.shtml and they even include a packing list.
  10. My Tiger Cub son will be crossing over into the Wolf Den at an upcoming Pack Family Camp Out. This is our 1st experience camping & we're bringing along the little 9-mo. old sister. You know whenever you go some place overnight with a baby it seems you have to pack the entire house. So I'd really like some suggestions on what baby supplies have been helpful for others. Yes, the stroller will get packed (don't know if my back is up for a backpack or Baby Bjorn carrier). Also, what about sleep arrangements in the tent since everyone else will be in sleeping bags? 'Can't take the crib
  11. Here's a sight that I found very helpful for my Tiger Cubs, but I think the games could be used (or modified) for the older Cubs as well: http://www.creighton.edu/~bsteph/pack114/library/tiger/
  12. Check out http://www.geocities.com/~pack215/tc-badge.html. They have updated clip art for the new Tiger Cub program.
  13. Thanks, Robin, for sharing the weblink!!! What a fun resource to help the Cubs burn up some excess energy!
  14. Great idea! I'm a rookie den leader & I am looking for all sorts of ideas for den meetings. Thanks for the web link to Pack 903!!
  15. Our cub scout pack is already preparing events for next year. We're looking for Texas camp-in suggestions. We've recently done the camp-ins at the U.S.S. Lexington in Corpus Christi, Moody Gardens in Galveston & Space Camp in Houston. Has anyone done the camp-ins at The Ball Park in Arlington, The Science Place in Dallas, the Fort Worth Zoo? I welcome your thoughts & suggestions that I may take to our next planning meeting.

  18. I like the Program Helps, but I have to say that the "Dollars & Sense" suggestions for Tiger Cubs were pretty lame (e.g., coin rubbings). We're going off course & will be having a marble tournament with one of the Wolf Dens so that boys from both dens can try to earn the Marble Sporting Pin. Good luck!
