  1. Great news guys!!!! I call our CO this afternoon and gave him the news of the positions changing and also gave him a name to call for my position. I had already spoken to this person but they had not gotten back to me (two weeks have gone by). He called me back in about a half an hour and said this person would take the job and I am going to help them in the fall when they are busy with their business. Everything is working wonderfully. Thank you all for your help.
  2. thanks weekender. I have set a date wich is when charter is up in March. They know this. I told them I would sent in the charter with no CC and if coucil caught it, oh well. I actually have been in scouting for 10 years totaled. Since my son was a Bear and I still will continue in scouting but in different areas and the parents know this. My son and I are doing more activities in the OA and I'm doing commissioner work and summer camp. See there is another problem too. Our local Pack has some siblings of our older boys. So some parents would like to be in both troop and pack. Here is the probl
  3. Lets look at this situation from a different view. Who will benefit from this overnight? The older boys in the troop, they will get to show they leadership skills, teach potentially new boys some scouting skills such as how to set up camp, cook meals, the dreaded clean-up after, experience being around a camp fire and laughing. What would the younger boys learn and experience? This is also a chance for the new adults to see and experience for themselves how an overnight works, they just may change their minds if you guys put on a good enough show. If they don't change their minds you still have p
  4. I am the committee chair for our troop and have been for about 6 years. We have undergone many great changes and our troop is the best it's ever been. The problem is my son is finishing up his Eagle this coming week and our charter is up at the end of March. It is time for someone else to give this job a try. My life is going in other directions in scouting and personally. The committee and parents don't want me to leave and arn't being very helpful in the search for a new committee chair. I have told them I am not going to be on the charter as CC but I will stay as a committee member to conti
  5. well this problem is not new. our troop had some of the very same problems. someone asked us if we had done JLT training. we had not. we looked in to it and did end up doing the training with select boys that were in key positions. they then went on and did some training of their own with other boys. this has been the single most effective thing we have done in our troop. it is very helpful. good luck!!!!
  6. WOW!!! Do you have a problem and more than one I would say. I have a few questions. Why did the boy suddenly become in active, what were his circumstances or reasons for this? Have you or your CC spoken to the young man? I too am a CC and have been for 6 years. I have written my response to you at least 3 times and changed it each time. This is the final copy. I would first of all not bring in any other outside problems such as you are having with the mother or the other son. Those are separate problems. Focus only on this young man. What has happened is behind you and you cannot change it, b
  7. Please remember that if you try all that you can in keeping this scout, not all boys are made to be scouts. And that is ok. Some boys simply enjoy the moment that they are in. Enjoy the moments with them.
