  • CSDC canceled?

Just heard from a Scout friend out in Indiana that her Council has canceled all CSDCamps this summer. Ours are still in full throttle planning stage. Any others out there canceled? Going ahead?

Ours here in SC is still on for June. We actually have a meeting tonight to plan more for it

We have had CS camps cancelled due to lack of sign ups. Nothing cancelled this summer yet. Our council has paired down the offerings due to lack of interest.

Yep happens. Either from lack of adult leadership to low numbers.

Just heard back from my friend, seems that since the merging of two (or more?) smaller Districts into one large one, the distances involved for one CSDC in the new District led folks to decide it is easier to plan many weekend events, one or two a month, to cover all the usual activities. So instead of one 5-day camp, with really early and late hours (to accomodate drop off, get to work, pickup and go home), they are spreading things out over several weekend saturdays with a couple of Son and One overnights. Makes sense now....

We've had to cancel the first week of camp at some of our locations this year due directly the harsh winter New Jersey has been experiencing. So many school districts have had so many closings that many campers and staffers alike will not be able to make their normal start dates. The state mandates that all public schools have to be open for 180 days of instruction no matter what the weather causes, so to make up all of the lost days everything is going to be very backed up when June rolls around.

Our district cancelled SLT. Not enough sign-ups.
Then they followed up with cancelling ITOLs.

I think that the word has spread about how useless most of the training was.
