Did you watch any of the America's Cup? I think it was race 5, where the Kiwis had the lead and tried to run up another spinnaker before a tear in the one flying blew apart. I think someone missed a bowline on a sheet, and the spinnaker turned into a pennant, flying from the top of the mast.
