Trevorum 24 Posted November 20, 2005 Share Posted November 20, 2005 What kind of service projects does your troop do? Our troop is always looking for fresh ideas that will be both helpful and fun. We like to do 1-2 hr service projects on campouts where possible. These always make the Park Ranger or camp owner very happy. Tell us about a service project your troop has done recently! Help restore a handicapped access boardwalk overblown by sand on a campout we had near Bodega Bay ( California - The Birds! EEk! ) Link to post Share on other sites

We also help our Charter Org. place flags on the graves at the new Veteran's cemetery for Memorial Day & Veterans Day. We do a holiday visit at a very neglected nursing home We also prepare and serve a meal at the Salvation Army soup kitchen. on top of t Link to post Share on other sites
EagleInKY 14 Posted November 21, 2005 Share Posted November 21, 2005 This year we did a visitation with the convalesent patients at our local hospital, did some maintenance work for our CO, did an ecology project at summer camp, and participated in Scouting For Food. Looking back, it was a little light this year, we need to do better next year. We also helped the Rotary Club with their pancake breakfast, but they paid us for it. SemperParatus 1 Posted November 21, 2005 Share Posted November 21, 2005 Annually, we do service at a homeless shelter and log miles at the diabetes walk-a-thon. Six times a year, we do different projects at an estuarine research reserve located within a few miles of our meeting place. Recent projects there - building/monitoring/cleaning owl boxes, install trail bars and stairs, fish seining project, event set-up and tear down, pond rehab, buffer planting, general grounds maintenance, etc, etc. Eagle projects are extras. This year we have helped on a river cleanup, painted the 'public areas' of a "facility for troubled youths", cleaned up trails in a regional park, cleaned up an area at a church owned farm and started a multi-year effort developing a youth/church members retreat/campsite- complete with a large brick fire pit circle... The guys helped with a community "walk a thon" (Farm Walk), did the set up for a cancer survivor over-night (24 hour)"walk a thon" We also "handle" the put-up/take down of American flags along the local town "main street" (about 100 flags) for an annual Hometown festival, Memorial day, Flag day and the 4th of July (We do this as a service to help the local Ruritans) Anarchist Link to post Share on other sites
