Contest medal

Does anybody know what the "Contest medal" is for, and how you go about "earning" it, and who is allowed to where it?

Those can be awarded at Camporees, troop events or anywhere else that you want to give recognition.

 

There is a similar medal for Cub Scouts and we gave out to the top five popcorn sellers and the pack level Pinewood Debry winners.

Contest medals are to be earned and possessed, not worn. You wouldn't wear a trophy or plaque, would you? The contest medal is another award, like a trophy.

 

Medal that are worn are like the Eagle Scout medal, but on formal occaisions only.

According to the Insignia Guide, Contest Medals can, indeed, be worn.

 

"Contest medal, with red and white ribbon, Boy Scout, above left pocket"

 

While it might be like a trophy, it is a trophy which can be worn.

These have been around for years. I have never been in a unit or district where they are used, but I expect some have a tradition. You can use this medal for any contest- camporees, Klondike derby and the like.
