FOG: A bit of shampoo, five minutes of scrubbing in a sink (water required), followed by a rinse and you have a clean shirt.

Easier said than done. We've had 17 year old scouts who ate dry Ramen noodles because they were too lazy to heat some water and had to escort them to the showers at summer camp to make sure they took at least one shower.

The other option is to buy a plastic trash can that has a lid that snaps on tight. Cut a hole in the top. Use a toilet plunger as the agitator. Instant washing machine.

FOG,

Cutting a small hole in a piece of plastic is too much work? Do you sleep in the car on campouts so you don't have to set up a tent?

You can always let a Scout cut the hole.....they love cutting things.

Well, in our troop the patrols do their own work.....so the boys would operate it. Each patrol member swishing the plunger for a minute or two won't take anymore time or effort than each one using a sink. Considering that all of the scout camps I've been to so far have either a stopperless narrow sheetmetal "sink" or a length of PVC pipe cut in half for a sink, a bucket or trash can would work much better. Also, considering that our scouts seem to have the uncanny ability to get their uniform dirty in about 30 seconds flat, having a full load to do wouldn't be a problem.

My first year on summer camp staff I did all my laundry with bucket, bar of soap, and a wash board. Great learning experience but it was hard work. (also learned you can't wash red staff shirts with white underwear).

The next year the camp bought a washing machine. We all were very happy (but I still ended up with pink underwear??)

There are a laundry facilities a Fort AP Hill if you look really hard and are willing to either wait or do the laundry in the wee small hours. We tried the bucket and plunger method. We used way too much soap. There were suds everywhere. Made for a great sud fight!! Have to admit that I didn't check with the G2SS to see if soap suds at 50 feet are an approved activity.

When we finished playing we gave all the laundry to a loving parent who took it back to the hotel she gave the maid $10.00 - It works for me.

If there is a new uniform that is yellow will it go with my gray hair or should I be thinking of a dye job??

Eamonn.

For me I like the 70's uniform I had as a scout. Those red stripes down the leg and around the pocket looked cool! Sort of like old west calvary pants. The were 100% cotton I think and were really cool during the warmer months. Cold in the winter but in my area we had more hot months than cold wet ones so it made sense for us. In the navy in the tropics we wore our whites year round. Got yelled at coming back to the states in the winter for being out of uniform when they were in blues.

Wish I could find some old 70's uniforms in adult sizes I'd change in a heart beat these olive pants itch=wool and are way to hot for me ditto the wool.

The current issue of BL sports a picture of a brand new Eagle in Field Uniform, wearing the old 60's style overseas cap. I have to admit it looks good, however my understanding is that you don't mix uniform parts from different eras. If you want to wear a 1966 uniform, you wear all of it, not the parts you like. Apparently the editors of BL are not as obsessed about proper uniforming as some of us are.

PS: I don't remember red stripes down the leg...only the Marines had that. We had red piping around the front pocket flaps which could be buttoned up or down.

Hey if we let all the Scouts tie dye their shirts and paint the bus, the 2005 Jamboree could be a real Happening. Think a real psychedelic paint job for the bus with Eamonn and the Merrymakers on the side with Further as the destination. Heck we could have hip poetry reading on the trip.

A real cool trip man.
