  1. In my experience it was a challenge to see how big we could go while cooking. And while hamburgers seem okay they can get really boring after a while. What we have done in the past is: steak, whole turkeys, Hungarian Guolash, and Thai. And once as the scouts get better at cooking they should challenge themselves, it's not as hard as you think, the only problem is getting started when you cook if you can get through the prep work you'll be fine.

In my experience as a scout I never had to double dip, mostly because i go to one of the few schools that require no hours, however I still have completed roughly 600-700 hours in high school outside of scouting. Sometimes I would never consider getting hours in scouting because some of it was focused on fundraising for international organizations.   3. In my opinion it helped give scouts a broader sense of leadership outside of scouting, but using scouting as an application. At the NYLT I was at we had more venturers than scouts, here the problem was that they were not familiar enough with scoutings organization and patrols which slowed it down a bit, but since part of NYLT is to also teach whoever I there what everything is. And it was easier to work with the venturers than the scouts who didn't even know what PLC was because their SM took care of everything.
  4. What I like to do is to use manager of learning, which it is possible to integrate EDGE into since it is a way of thinking that the teacher isn't teaching, but managing what they learn. For example if there is a scout that may know how to do it already i would try to use them to help explain and teach it, that way all of the scouts learn the skill, those that already know it won't get bored since they are helping to teach the rest of the group, and those that do help teach also have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills at the same time. It really isn't hard to deal with girls in NYLT, if you look at White Stag they have been successful, with a coed group for years, and really have thrived, 300 campers 70 staff, last year so it isn't super difficult, all we need to do is not let u feel as I they are a problem and if they are in venturing they are tough enough to deal with guys, also if you ever been around scouts when they are & aren't around girls they actually behave and try harder to do well with them around, the biggest issue would just be that there are girls. I took the trainers edge course a while back, and one topic "effective teaching" I believe was made by bela banathy, although he calls it something else, i know that h has written articles in teaching journals although most deal with teaching a foriegn language with using a systems approach (he was an instructor at the defense language institute and I think a psychologist). You can try looking at him, although it isn't very edge specific.
