new scoutmaster, and new to forums

Wood Badge is very dependant upon the Council/District facilitating the course. Too bad its not a good experience in your district. I got a LOT out of my WB experience.
  2. As a WBer I found the training to be great review of man of the topics covered while earning my degrees and corperate trainings. I also felt our staff was well trainined and delivered the training exceptionally. I will be on staff this year and only hope I can be as helpful as my staff was to me. WB is like many things in life. You get out what you put into it. I also realize that your expereince is greatly impacted by your staff and patrol. Again, I was lucky as our Patrol got along and noone was there acting like a "know it all". As you can tell, I had a very positive WB expereince and am happy to go back. Back to Gilwell Happy Land...

    Game of life

The WB experience in general is very dependant upon the staff. Especially the Game if Life. As a course particiapant this game did not have an adverse affect on me but it did on a few others. I too have been to many corperate trainings in the 'real world' and teach at many of these trainings for my job. I was very impressed with our staff as I saw this game unfolding. I was not privy to the details of the game before hand but could see the eventual outcome as it was unfolding. As scouters were upset after the game the senior staff and TGs were great at how they handled these participants. Additionally, we were reminded that this game and the emotions are part of the curriculum by design. Those scouters that were affected the most by the game also grew the most from their experiences. To purposfully cause storming between the two weeks ends is a horrible idea IMHO. I was lucky to have a great staff who modeled the behavior they expected from us and made the course worth while. If I had a different staff I could see WB being a very unpleasant expereince. I used to be a Buffalo...

    LDS Cub Scout Packs

Any unit should be happy to have any parent involved in the program. LDS Pack Leaders are called as described in an earlier post and the LDS handbook on scouting is also correctly referenced. You do not have to be LDS to be a leader in an LDS PAck. However, The COR and Executive Head (Bishop) have the final say in Pack Leadership. I am sure if you spoke witht the Bishop he would gladly accept your help.
