  1. Couple years ago we did the 50 Miler. Started a bit in Pennslyvannia in the Alleganey National Forest. Hiked the North Country Trail through Alleghaney State Park in New York. Got Canoes the last day and took the Alleganey River back towards PA. It was a blast! Recommend it for anybody.

  3. I recently accepted a job as Ecology Director at a Boy Scout summer camp. Wasn't planning on doing it, but the Camp Director, who is a good friend of mine was in a lurch and couldn't get anyone to do it. All the Ecology Area has done in the past is merit badge instruction such as Mammal Study, Enviornmental Science, etc. I was wondering if anyone could tell me programs/ideas that other Ecology areas do that are successful so I might be able to use them. Thanks!
  4. The Board of Reviewes in our troop usually turn into vicious retests of a canidate, unfortunatly. This is because the older scouts and the Patrol Leaders who work with the young ones do not throughly teach a skill before signing off a requirment. Therefore for some scouts the BOR usually knows he does not know all the requirments for the rank properly and the test begins! We have tried to get our Patrol Leaders to do better before they sign, but it doesn't happen. How can we remedy this situation? Thanks.
  5. I am a Senior Patrol Leader and I do almost all of the planning for camps as well as arranging the setups and I try to get advice from and delegate duties to the other junior leaders as much as possible. We basically let the scouts set of the tents wherever they want as long as they are not to close to the firepits, etc. We only tell scouts where to put their tents if we are at a very small site with space constraints. The patrol system in our troop isn't to strong (we have a small troop) but I try to get it going as much as possible by encourage the scouts of each patrol to set up their tents
