  1. Here's a good-looking site I came across: http://www.goldenspread.org/spderby.html -Marietta
  2. Well, there are a lot of good-sounding suggestions at http://www.childfun.com/themes/hawaii.shtml - I haven't tried them personally, but they look fun, easy, and relatively inexpensive... Good luck!
  3. Coincidentally, I asked that same question at our Committee meeting last night, since I was curious. The response was basically that the Webelos continue meeting through the summer (since Webelos is a two-year level) and that they'll be working on various achievements on a fairly regular basis. The younger Scouts generally don't meet, although there is the area Cub Scout day camp that some of them attend. I don't think our Pack has ever tried for the summertime award.
  4. Our Pack does a spring roundup for both re-registration of continuing Scouts and registration of new Scouts (mostly Tigers, but we pick up a few at other levels every year). We hand out the books, the summer newsletter, and whatever other information is at hand, and then basically say "see you in September". Pros: we get a sense of how many Scouts to expect in the Pack in the fall, the boys get their books and can work on achievements and electives over the summer (especially the sports-oriented ones), and having their materials for next year seem to keep them interested over the summer.
  5. Well, http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Trails/8839/speaward.htm has a great list of requirements for all the "specials" (Totin' Chit, Fireman Chit, etc.). http://www.melrosetroop68.org/tests.html actually gives a "test" for the Chit. And http://www.scoutingaround.com/boy_scouts/totinchip/index.html is a great outline for actually teaching the chit. Hope these help!
  6. I have both the color version and a black&white (not quite line art but should reproduce well). I've uploaded them to the SCOUTER ClipArt Library (http://www.scouter.com/clipart/) - we'll see how long it takes them to appear there. They have a whole section on TigerCubs, but only the "old" badge is there currently.
  7. Doing a Google search turned up a lot of links - here's one pretty informative one: http://www.twinarrows.org/pack903/cubanapolis.htm There seem to be quite a few variations on the "pit stops" (turn a T-shirt inside out, change socks, etc.) which leaves plenty of room for creativity. This looks like a fun activity!
  8. Do you mean this one? "Scouts! The Rise of the World Scouting Movement" See http://www.usscouts.org/usscouts/profbvr/scoutfiction/bpmovie.html for more information...
  9. From http://www.shushans.com/sixthpage.html Measuring Instructions: If you have not purchased a new hat recently or do not know your hat size, measure your head. Sizes vary with hair styles, age, weight gain and loss. Use a tapemeasure to determine the circumference of your head to the nearest 1/8 of an inch by measuring across the widest part of the head, above the eyebrows and ears. Use the Sizing Chart to convert this measurement in inches to a hat size. (see the web page referenced above for the sizing chart) Good luck!

    Sewing

Eek, don't scare me like that... my son just got his Bobcat badge and it's sitting on my sewing table waiting to be attached to the front pocket. Sewing the patches on the sleeves was tedious but not really difficult (other than keeping them straight - I use pins generally) but I hadn't really considered the differences between sewing on a pocket and on a sleeve!
  11. As far as I know it's not unique - our Advancement person knew about it, but wasn't able to locate her materials. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has ever seen this one.
  12. Found it!! http://www.his.com/~makuch/pack1139/faq/read.html Tigers Obtain a library card from your local library. Read three books or have someone read three books of your choice to you. Read a book of your choice with your family. Cub Scouts and Webelos Obtain a library card from your local library. Read three books of your choice. Read a book aloud with your family. Subscribe to Boys' Life magazine.
  13. Specifically, see http://www.geocities.com/~pack215/pc.html - part of the Virtual Cub Scout Leader's Handbook (a great resource)!
  14. I know there is such a thing - even know the requirements (for Cub Scouts, get your library card, read three books, read one book out loud to your family, subscribe to Boys Life) - but I can't find any reference to it anywhere all of a sudden! I had wanted to post a link on our Pack webpage as a FYI, but neglected to bookmark the site that I had originally found and now can't find it again. Any help greatly appreciated!
  15. Here are the general positions on our Pack Committee: Chair, Cubmaster, Advancement, Treasurer, Publicity, Newsletter/Webmaster, and then we generally have one or two "Members At Large". Currently we also have an Assistant Cubmaster on the Committee. Hope this helps!
