"Is the singing routine supported by any of the 12 points of the Scout Law?" It's part of the 12th point. The Scout often starts praying, "Oh God, why did I lose my cap?"

BadneP, you've been taking Bob White (may he rest in peace) lessons. You won't explain things and expect us to accept your word. You keep babbling about large donations and that really has nothing to do with the direction that this discussion has gone. "If you understood business law and management you would not keep asking such inane and redundant questions" That's odd, I've been running my own business for quite a few years. I guess that I must understand something. I figure that if you actually knew anything that you wouldn't be working for the government. BTW, shouldn't you be working (as if government employees work)? If you're on the taxpayer's dime, I'm greatly outraged that you are playing on the internet. Bye now. I'll think that I'll take advantage of the ignore user feature.

I have few objections to nicknames. Many Scouts in my troop wind up with nicknames at Summer Camp that pass out of usage once we return home. I can't think of any Scouts that have nicknames that are in common use.

Thanks. I've never seen these before but they look promising, especially for hat pins. I've long replaced the regular clutch backs with something that the uniform shop called "jewler's back" which look like the back of a tie tack. Much more secure than the original back. Unfortunately, my supply of them is drying up.

"n my years in scouting, I can remember at least 2 boys in our troop that we suspected as being gay." I long ago gave up trying to guess who is a homosexual and who isn't. I was greatly surprised to discover that two friends were "lovers." One liked to dress well and cook but both liked cars, motorcyles, beer, guns and could belch and fart with the best of them. Seems that I was the last to discover that they were homosexual. They were also babe magnets, maybe that should have been a clue. Then there was the guy in college that we all "knew" was a homosexual. Imagine our suprise when his girlfriend from home showed up. She could have been a supermodel in training. They got married after graduation and at last word, he has a half dozen kids. If he's a homosexual, he must be working hard to supress his natural urges.

"If that company writes something off as a marketing expense . . ." I guess that the multi-national companies that have given my clubs stuff don't have a clue about what they are doing. "I already answered your other question about mixing officers of a corporation with the troop committee members, treasurer or other." No, you didn't. You babbled about accepting contributions. The troop and the CO are one and the same. As you pointed out, the troop doesn't exist except as a part of the CO. Following your logic, it would be a conflict of interest if my wife keeps the family checkbook and the passbook for the vacation fund. Considering that the IRS is famous for giving bad gouge, I'll take what you say under advisement. "You need to be careful using the BSA name for any large donation fund raising activity not sanctioned by the council." Why do you keep bringing this up? You don't give us a lot of faith in the government. (This message has been edited by Fat Old Guy)

"My point is: Scouting does not teach sexuality. Anyone who promotes their private sexual activites to youth (homo or hetero) has no place being a youth leader." The Scoutmaster kisses his wife before he leaves for summer camp is that okay? What about if your Scoutmaster kisses his "life partner"? So now we need to eliminate public displays of affection?

" I know that FOG's tongue is firmly in cheek. It doesn't make the suggestion any less offensive. " Oh, for crying out loud.

"It is as Eisley put so well, if you are soliciting donations for your troop and telling people or they assume are tax deductible as a contribution to the BSA that is fraud and that is illegal." What the heck does this have to do with your claim that the treasurer of the CO cannot be the treasurer of the troop? boleta said, "So, these contributions and services are really undeclared donations to council" Why? Just tell the donor that they aren't tax deductible if the CO isn't a 501©. I've solicited donations for many clubs and most businesses just write it off as a marketing expense. I've never collected a car or van but I once scored a $1,000 set of tires.(This message has been edited by Fat Old Guy)

FScouter, you might want to check your skivvies, I think that your shorts are too tight.

Oh God, Diversity Training. Oh Lord, please save us from ourselves. Isn't that abuse the straight white guys training? If one person is offened, then we all have to suffer. I'm offended by the left hand shake because the left hand is historically used to wipe one's butt. Let's get rid of it. I'm also offended by the term "square knot" because it implies that you aren't cool if you tie it, let's use the term "reef knot." Wait, "reef knot" evokes images of "reefers" (not referigerated ships) so that is offensive to me. I'm also offended by grossly overweight people in uniforms that are two sizes too small. Let's ban them.

" Friends of Troop xyz could also qualify as a nonprofit if their interests and officers are not the same as the troops." The officers of the troop, by definition are the officers of the Charter Organization since the troop is part of the CO. "[if] the same people who handle the money in the troop handled the money in the corporation that is illegal" Why? The troop is part of the corporation. That'd be like saying the treasurer of the United Methodist Church can't be the treasurer for their Boy Scout troop. "Like I said before it is more complicated than you think." I think that you're making it much more complicated than it is. I find it difficult to believe that all of those "Freinds of Troop abc" corporations are operating illegally. If that was the case, I'm sure that the BSA would have issued guidelines to fix the problems.

"find that I seldom have a need to tie knots in "real" life." I tie knots on a regualar basis. I have to tie my shoes. I tie things to the roof of my car. I tie the dog to various and sundry poles and posts. Then there are the lynchings too.
-
BP, you're confusing me. The Porsche Club of America is a non-profit corporation but it is not a charitable organization. There is no reason that the PCA cannot charter a troop. BTW, I just read IRS pub 4420 and it sounds like a "Friends of Troop 995" would be a shoe-in for 501©.

Which knot do you think is the most useful? Two half hitches Which Knot do you use the most? Overhand knot Where do you go to look up stuff on knots? I have three fairly decent books on knots.

"Probably because they wouldn't be able to scrape up one complete uniform between all the scouts at any given troop meeting across the country." ROTFLUMBH! -
Jimmy, that's the second person this week that you've killed. This is becoming a problem. What can we do to help you to remember to that brutally murdering someone isn't acceptable?

I'd look at the lad and ask if he wears lace underwear. Then I'd laugh at him, rub his face in the mud and finally give him his cap back.

" Out here we have many CO who are Friends or Parents of, they have no real legal existence. " Why? It takes about 15 minutes to do the paperwork to form a non-profit corporation. It may not be 501© but it gives you advantages that group of parents doesn't have.

"More than likely they are paid talent and have signed all the appropriate release forms." Why would BSA waste money on paid models when they have a HUGE pool of models that would likely pose for free? If they are paid models and not members of BSA isn't it a violation of BSA policy for them to wear the BSA uniform? -
If only these would come off in the wash

" It also tells the Scout there are consequences for his forgetfulness." Ed, you are sooooo old school with that antiquated idea that a child should learn that there are always consequences for his actions. Break a window, don't worry because dad will pay for it. Wreak a car, don't worry because dad will buy you a new one. Rob a bank, don't worry dad will hire a lawyer and a shrink to shift the blame. Kill someone, don't worry they'll blame dad and rock music and the gun industry and the lack of fiber in your diet but it will never be your fault. I was about to say that the about the only place that there are negative consequences is school but that isn't true anymore. A friend of my son "earned" three "E"s and two "D"s this last semester but the schools don't think that is quite bad enough to justify holding him back. Nope, there aren't supposed to be negative consequences anymore.
