Seoul Food...115 dishes for 2023 World Scout Jamboree

Recommended Posts

"OurHome, the official sponsor of the food service for Saemangeum Jamboree, taking place from August 1st to 12th, will provide food and beverage services to 43,000 scouts and operators from more than 150 countries worldwide. The company also provides 34,000 scouts with meal boxes which they can cook at camp and group meal plans for 9,000 staff members for two weeks.

It prioritized developing the Saemangeum Jamboree menus based on 20,000 standardized recipes. Since April, the team has held evaluation and tasting meetings on the dishes to be served during the event for key officials of the Jamboree. After collecting feedback and improving recipes, they selected 75 meal boxes for scouts and 40 group meal plan menus. Considering that the event is a global festival, they focused on diversifying the menus from K-food to Western food, Chinese food, vegan food, and halal food for the participants of various countries."

Food Supply

During the 12 days of camping in hot summer, nutrition will be a very critical part of health. The Jamboree food plan was established, fulfilling autonomy, cultural appreciation, convenience, and enjoyment. Menus reflect global food traditions and trends. Every unit will place an order in advance and receive ingredients at Subcamp the same day—and then cook.

If you have a special event during the Jamboree, you may be able to substitute other ingredients from the pre-ordered regular meals. However, to accommodate allergies or dietary restrictions, those people may receive ingredients based on their pre-order.

Foods can be ordered in increments of 1 Troop within each unit. Basic condiments (pepper, salt, oil, chili powder, etc.) will be provided once in the August 1 dinner food shipment.

For food boxes, breakfast and lunch are provided together, and each unit receives 8 boxes. For dinner, only 4 boxes are supplied(you must return the food box after the meal).

Update Aug 4, 2023:

The BBC has been speaking to parents of children at the campsite in SaeManGeum.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, they said that no activities were taking place due to the heat, and some people with specific dietary requirements were not being catered for.

One parent from the north-east of England, whose 16-year-old daughter is at the camp, told the BBC the trip was meant to be a "great life experience", but instead turned into a "survival mission".

...

Scouts from Britain, the largest contingent, said on Friday that they were moving to hotels in the capital Seoul for the rest of their stay, hoping to alleviate the pressure on the site.

"The UK volunteer team has worked extremely hard with the organisers, for our youth members and adult volunteers to have enough food and water to sustain them, shelter from the unusually hot weather, and toilets and washing facilities appropriate for an event of this scale," UK Scouts said.

Something is lost in translation here..."esophagus"?

My guess, the original Korean word was  식도   sigdo and should have been translated to kitchen knife,  but kitchen knife is already in the list:huh:
