blw2 433
yeah, I think the key is the "buffering" battery. I'd guess that there are losses this way due to the inefficiencies of charging first the battery, then transferring that charge.... but the practical usability is more what I think we are after.... and then there are the thermo electric ideas, like this http://www.biolitestove.com/?gclid=CjwKEAjwi4yuBRDX_vq07YyF7l8SJAAhm0rpAInzBDc5j5gRiEAqQh81m_mRyr3HJQ68YDHTKFn0BRoCBizw_wcB

blw2 433
I've had great luck with the several Anker batteries I have. They get used almost daily in my family.

Which might be best to recharging a phone in the backcountry? I can usually get my pack pretty light so weight is not that big a deal. Curious if anyone has knowledge of the various types here. Torchwood 177
My Anker (without using the solar panel) kept my iPhone 6 charged for the entire week of Scout Camp, and still had volts and amps leftover. This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D5T3QK4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage I haven't looked at the Jackery packs, so I don't know how they compare.
