Fuzzy Bear 12
Whatever happened to the Man of Steele that answered all of our questions when we were lost in the woods? Where oh where is Bob White that answered all of our questions when the Man of Steele went South on us and we were hunkered down trying to find our pants in the dark? What do we do now? I guess we will be forced to finally read. FB
Fat Old Guy 11
Does a unit need to fill out a fundraising application if they say, "Okay parents, we need an extra $200 to buy the trailer! Break out your wallets!" A cake raffle is really no different. No one over the age of 10 buys a ticket because they really want a cake. They buy the ticket to funnel money into the troop. In any case, we have our DE saying that we can and that makes it okay until someone higher up says that we can't.
Chicken Ranch 10
Dessert Raffle? - Great idea, but... don't you think the word "Raffle" might be the problem? Try calling it something else, like a "bake sale," a "cookie trade," or a "silent (or loud) auction" for baked goods (or other items). A "cookie trade" could be set up so that each family wanting to participate contributes $$$ (whatever amount of money the committee decides) to the troop budget to cover troop expenses such as gasoline to summer camp or extra patches for the boys (historic trails award, etc.). Their $$$ buys their right to participate (their ticket to trade) and then each person or family that brings an item (cake, cookies, pie, etc.) can trade their item/s with another contributor. It would work real well if held shortly before one of those holidays when some people are looking for a variety of sweets but only have the talent or time to make one or two, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter.
