mgkaiser
Hello from Bradenton, Florida. Join us at http://www.savecfe.org for the full story. Camp Flying Eagle is a Boy Scout camp located in Eastern Manatee County in Florida. This camp has a long history. In 1929, the Manatee County Boys Development Association (a scout-booster group) raised $2,000 to buy this land. This land was leased to the Sunny Land Council until 1991. In 1991, the land was deeded to the Council. This transfer was done with the understanding and stipulation that this land be kept for scouting purposes and would not be sold. In 1995, the Sunny Land Council merged in to the Southwest Florida Council. In the course of the past year, the Council has begun to entertain offers for the sale of this irreplaceable land. This is in direct contradiction to the good faith extended when this land was deeded to the Council and is an insult to the Scouts of this area. Many former Scouts and current Scouts in the area are against the potential sale of this land. This opposition has even led to the Council taking the unprecedented action of revoking the BSA membership of the volunteer Campmaster, Colonel B.J. "Red Dog" Maynard. FScouter
"This transfer was done with the understanding and stipulation that this land be kept for scouting purposes and would not be sold." Was this a handshake agreement, or was it written into the sales contract and does it appear as a restriction on the deed?
nldscout
My understanding is nothing was wrote into any paperwork. That being said, things in a council change that may cause a reevaluation of council priorities.
