This is a "sticky subject" that has been discussed quite a bit on the board (sorry, could not pass up the obvious pun).

I use BadgeMagic for the "temporary" patches that will be replaced periodically (Quality Unit, Badge of Office, etc). I made the decision having seen the edges of the patches on other Scouter uniforms start to loosen up over time. So if it is staying on the uniform more than a year, (two at the most) then I sew it on. For my son's red "Brag Vest", all of the patches & segments are sewn on. It is a little more work, and takes a little longer, but should keep them from having to be fixed.

As in all things YMMV.

Used it once. The second time the shirt was washed the patches came off and the patch adhesive came off and got all over the clothes in the drier.

Take the extra time and sew them on. I put snaps on the pocket for his rank patches. When he gets his Eagle he will sew that one on.

Badge Magic works like a charm for me. I've repeatedly wwashed my uniform and have had no problems with patches loosening up. Just today I applied some solveny to change a badge of office, and the old badge peeled off easily like a band aid.

Works great for this bachelor.

I HATE it. My wife used it on my uniform because the sewing machine was broken. When she went to change a position patch out, the solvent spread to other patches and all the patches on one sleeve came off. Not only did the patches come off, but the glue got all over the shirt. It was washed 5 times and still has bits of black glue on it. We are taking it to the dry cleaners and will be sewing on patches in the future.

The one exception to the sewing are my OA lodge patches, foir which I put velcro on the back of the patch and sew a velcro strip to the shirt pocket.
