Phoenix_Storm
I am asking for help...From anyone who does Boy Scouts. I have known for a few years that the Council I am with wants to get rid of me. Now a situation has occurred where I am the blame. However I have witnesses to this situation that will exonerate me. Needless to say, the Council now has a name for my replacement. The Council doesnt care if the boys quit or the troop disbands as long as I am gone. Now is this the Scout way? If so I dont want a part of it. Neither do any Boy Scouts I know. Any advice?
SemperParatus
Your statement that the Council doesn't care 'if the troop disbands' leads me to believe that your position is a volunteer one within a troop (e.g., SM or CC). Is that correct? It would be highly unusual for a Council to get involved in unit personnel decisions such as dismissing a leader or finding his/her replacement. I guess it could occur in especially unique and egregious situations. Is that would we are dealing with here? Has the Council communicated anything in writing to you that you are being dismissed? Until that happens, I don't think you are finished unless, of course, you want to be. There is life beyond scouting, sometimes it is better to just step away when you are not wanted, rather than put yourself through the emotional turmoil of fighting those in authority. Eamonn
With the information that you have posted, I fail to see how anyone could offer any advise. Eamonn
ScoutNut
I'm with Eamonn. We can't give advise if we don't know what we are advising about. If you are a volunteer at the Troop level the Council has no say in your going or staying. Unless of course there has been a Youth Protection complaint. If you volunteer with your Council in a District or Council wide position, then your Council has the right to "fire" you from what ever Council/District position you hold. But, that would not affect your volunteer position in a Troop, Pack or Crew. If you are a paid Professional Scouter, employed by your Council, the Council again has the right to fire you. And again, loosing your job would not affect any volunteer positions you held. As Semper said, your Council does not pick replacements for Pack, Troop or Crew volunteers. That is up to the Charter Organization Head, Charter Organization Representative & Unit Committee Chair. Also, how would your leaving (or being asked to leave) a volunteer/paid position affect either the boys in a Troop or the charter of that Troop? More information is deffinately needed.
