  1. Thanks Eagle. I went back to AB100 this morning with my son (he's a wolf and was way to tired to do anything else by get back home after the parade). It was closed down due to damage it took from the weather yesterday. The guy in charge told me that many of the tents blew down and they have to check to make sure the rope bridge is safe, etc. That system came in pretty fast. It went from sunny to downpour in the time it took us to walk from AB100 to the Navy Archieves metro station. Welcome to DC!
  2. Craig, I just came back from AB100 on the Nat'l Mall. Because they are on Gov't property, they couldn't get a permit to sell things. Sorry. Not sure if everyone heard but around 3:30pm yesterday (right after the BSA parade) severe weather rolled in. Park rangers were telling scouts to get out the area in indoors. The high wind gusts blew down a few of the tents at AB100 and did enough damage for them to close it today (they said if they got enough volunteer workers back they might open a few things this afternoon, but don't count on it).
  3. Glad I had the brimmed hat today at the Centenial parade. Provided me shade in the hot sun and when the rain started coming down in the afternoon. Are you suppose to clean/wash the brimmed hat? I had a Tilly hat that I use for my outdoor activities and it gives directions to wash it often since sweat weakens the fabric. How do you clean a felt hat?

    Sock Question

Eagle, Our POC hasn't given us the location in the assembly area yet. In th parade, we're in the 1960s Division with 38 other troops/packs. It's going to be a crazy ride!

    Sock Question

OK, I know I'm being paranoid, but if we wear the shorts, does it matter what type of BSA socks we wear with it? I've only seen pictures of leaders in shorts wearing the calf high socks (which I don't wear even if I'm hiking). I got the mid size (over the ankle?) BSA socks that I usually wear. I usually don't think twice about the sock length, but the pack will be marching in the Centenial parade and I don't want someone come up to me and tell me I'm wearing the wrong socks.
  6. I finally broke down and bought brimmed hat. I've seen it on the Scout Stuff web site with the Universal Emblem Hat Pin and it also had the Adult Universal Emblem Hat Pin next to it. Are you required to have a hat pin on the brimmed hat? Since head gear is optional, I haven't seen anything on it.
  7. Prof, It's high 90s right now and near 50% humidity. We have the cs day camp at Ft. Belvoir next week. It's going to be a hot one!
  8. Eagle, I never thought I was a fashionist until I started to look for a hat to go with the uniform. I took a look at the brimmed hat. It look a little dated. Everytime I see it, the Indiana Jone's theme song plays in my head (does a whip come with it?). I've also seen the CS boonie hat. Better, but I'm not sure how the blue hat would go with the khaki and OD leader uniform. The only "official" hat that I sort of like is the Venturer boonie hat. It would be great if BSA came up with a modern boonie hat in khaki?
  9. I was told by the DL that there was only one ADL position. Maybe the norm in our pack is one ADL per den; maybe he didn't know you can have more than one. I need to look into this. It would be great to expand the scout leaders at the den level. With a little luch they would later transition to the pack level.
  10. Just came across this forum while trying to find information on badge placement on the adult uniform. This is a great site! I've been a Tiger Dad and just volunteered to be an ACM. Looking forward to the experience.
  11. I got here through a bunch of starts and stops. I started cub scouts late, made it up to Bear quickly (remember there wasn't the age/rank format back then). My Dad said cub scouts took too much time so I never became a Webelo. Later, my friends were boy scouts so I convinced my Dad to let me join. He basically dropped me off and picked me up from events so his time involved was minimal. Again, started late, but I made it to Life quickly. Then high school, band, student council, sports, girlfriends happened and I barely finished my service project and merit badges by the time I was
  12. Speaking about boonie hats, why isn't there an "official" boonie or wide brimmed hat. I've only seen the Venture 10th anniversary and one other. I've had two friends now that had melanoma on the top of the ears where baseball style caps don't cover. I've switched to a wide brimmed cap for all my outdoor activities (from camping to helping with T-ball).
