  1. I guess I should have been more specific with my question. Alternatives abound, but what is the "legal or approved" status of any option?
  2. The red Patch or Brag Vest is used as one place for scouts to display temporary patches. It is not an official part of the uniform, even though it is sold in the scout store. Since it is personal clothing, can a pack, den, individual, etc. design a different temporary patch display method? What about a red felt sash similar to the Boy Scout merit badge sash? Or what about a red windbreaker? Not being official uniform, it like the patch vest, could not be worn for uniform inspections and should be discouraged at formal ceremonies.
  3. The patch vest is not a part of the official uniform, but it is encouraged for the display of temporary patches. Since the vest is personal clothing with a scout emphasis, can scouts, packs, dens, etc choose different designs for a vest? Say use a sash in red similar to merit badge sash. Or maybe use a red jacket design?
  4. Bob, After rereading the posts I can see the answer to my question. Thanks for your moderating and opening discussion. ctablock
  5. In our council, the scout shop and store are one and the same. They are removed from our location. Mail often takes more than 1 week for the form/ patch to make a return trip. This means express mail or driving extra trips to guarantee presentation of the patch within a week. Our council also charges us postage so if there are merit badge cards or large awards in addition to the patch it is costly.
  6. My thought is that the patch is presented after the Board of review, at that meeting or next. At Court of Honor the card and parent pin is presented with recognition to the scout. The furthest from that postion is the council office which says the Board of Review is not certified until the report is logged into the computer at council. Therfore no badge can be presented until the council office returns the patch after logging it. Verbal recognition is given after the BOR at the meeting. The patch can be presented at some other time, preferably the COH. This, they say, is national
  7. I am a new Committee Chair and would like the proper interpretation of this passage from the Scoutmaster Handbook. Step 4A Scout Is Recognized Immediate recognition is a powerful incentive of the BSAs advancement program. A Scout should receive his new badge as soon as possible after his achievement has been certified by a board of review. A simple ceremony at the conclusion of a troop meeting or during a campout is ideal, with the Scoutmaster making the presentation of the badge. In addition, a troop holds a court of honor every three months a formal recognition with families, friend
  8. We have used Troopmaster for about 2 years. We upgraded to ME version. We have one site for the master records and one for advancement. It works very well to have this system. We will soon have multiple sites for membership, training, patrol advisers, and activities. The only real problem is that when you have a new member join, all data has to be pulled back from the satelite sites to the master record. Then new members are added, and all information sent back out again. As we are all on email, this works fairly well.
