What does Wood badge curtail?
CeeJayRocker replied to Scoutfish's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
I don't post much, but I couldn't help myself with this one. Wood Badge "curtails" ill-founded but often well intentioned leadership tactics. It "curtails" loss of units due to untrained leaders. Finally, it "curtails" the great loss of moral and ethical decisionmaking ability rampant among today's youth and adults. -
Wood Badge beads for NYLT staff
CeeJayRocker replied to emb021's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Should a girl be able to earn Eagle Scout by participating in the Venturing program? -
I've received two different answers on this issue. To qualify for this award, is it 100 days and 100 nights (200 separate events) or is it 100 days and nights (a combination of days and nights totaling 100)?

What is WB all about?
CeeJayRocker replied to ladyleader's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Here's the problem with this discussion. WB is not about scouting skills. It used to be, and other courses have taken over . . . WB is about leadership. It's taught in a outdoor setting, although not in every council. It's taught with outdoor themes . . . Make no mistake (to borrow an admonishment) . . . WB is about leadership, and it can be applied in any setting, at any level in scouting, and in any avocation . . . . -
Ticket Goal Questions
CeeJayRocker replied to ehcalum's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Eamonn came close to my suggestion . . . Perhaps you should wait until you've come closer to finishing the course before you craft your ticket. I now know that Scouting's concept of diversity is much broader and less narrowly defined than the common meaning. Now, don't take that to mean that your MB counselor goal is not worthy, because I believe it is. Just rein it back a bit, take the course in, then craft your tickets. I had barely a notion of what a ticket was when I first assembled on the Lea, and I can tell you only one of my original ticket thoughts turned into a real ticket by the -

BALOO & Cub Scout outdoor program resources
CeeJayRocker replied to fgoodwin's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
There is a Cub Leader outdoor training program, although I'm not familiar with it being presented during the initial training. It's been previously called Webelos Leader Overnight training, and is currently termed Leader Overnight Experience. It's about a day and a half, with training sessions on camping, cooking, nature, first aid, campfires and Scouts Own Service. It's taught in the "den" method, kind of like a mini, mini, mini Wood Badge. Generally, leaders don't participate until they're preparing for Webelos . . . . I used to be a Bear. . .
