When I was a boy, the only camp that we ever went to for summer camp was Camp Orr. Just outside Jasper, Arkansas on the beautiful Buffalo National River. I can almost say that I grew up there. I have a hand-held police scanner that picks up the NOAA weather channels. I also have a set of those 12-mile range walkie-talkies that has them built in as well. So far, I have not been anywhere that I can't pick up a signal (I have had some weak signals though). I am sure that the radios that I have do have their limits. I was a Cub Scout and a Webelo's for a short time. I was in Boy Scouts for a long time making my Eagle and earning the Vigil Honor. lol... I'm 37 and was in scouts for years. I recently got back into it. I saw a "decent" one on Ebay last week for @ $100. I never hurts to ask. I was thinking about using reprints and will probably get them, as they will probably be all that I can find. I'll keep looking, maybe I'll get lucky.

I have a small collection of handbooks starting with the ones that my dad had when he was a boy and I would like to give him a full set for his birthday. He was so supportive of the program when I was a kid and still helps out to this day.

At our summer camp that we just got back from, I taught wilderness survival. As part of the requirements for the merit badge, each scout had to put together a "survival kit." It has the 10 outdoor essentials in it along with other items that the scout thought would be useful in a survival situation. They had to explain what each item was and why it might be useful.
