  1. Thank all of you for your help with this Question. I will take everything that you told me and use it. Mr.Maynard
  2. Please dont get the wrong idea. I am not trying to have a power struggle with anyone its just that we have a real big pack of about 100 kids & I just dont want this guy to do anything to mess it up for the kids. He is new and the existing CM had picked him for the role of CM. But he is very headstrong and wants to do things his own way. I just think I need to sit down and tell him how the committee works & let him know that if the committee decides on something then thats the way it will go. Thanks for the help!!!
  3. Thank you both. I do understand that I am to make sure that the pack or troop runs smooth. But is it my responsibility to get committee members or to make sure that they come to the meetings. We have a new CM and I think he is going to try to take over the committee to make everything go as he sees fit but im not going to let that happen that is the reason I am asking how much Authority does the CC have over the CM. Thanks
  4. What are the committee chairmans reasonabilitys? I have been thru all the training but I think there is more to it than just what they train you for. 1) What power does the committee chairman have over the S.M., C.M decisions? 2) Is it the CC reasonability to make sure that all the leaders come to the meetings? I think that it is up to the leaders to come on their own! Please help me find out exactly what the CC reasonability are.
  5. Hi scoutscooter Im sorry to here that you have a troop that acts like that. In the Chicago area council we have woman SM, CC and so on. In our troop we require every leader to go thru leader training not just the fast start training in order to go camping with the troop. We have woman leaders in our troop but they dont have the full leader training required for them to go camping with the boys. If they did have the training I dont see any reason not to let them go. As far as your sons troop goes I think that your troop Committee is afraid to say anything to your SM. May it be they
  6. Hi CNY Our troop supplys the scouts w/tents not all kids can afford new tents. So in order to give them the experience of camping we supply the tents to the boys that dont have one. What are they going to do tell the boys that if they dont have there own tent then they cant go? You cant do that! Each boy shouldnt have his own tent anyways there is a thing called the buddy system, each boy must have a buddy even in the tent or going to the K.Y.B.O. As far as having the boys bring there own food thats not a good idea. The reason is that you have new boys that dont know what there doi

  9. Use it or loose it Yes I agree with that thinking for swimming merit badge I make the kids use the bowline for water rescue. Leader are the same way I did a knot station at our pow wow for 2 hours & 3 hours for the leaders that wanted to know how to show the boys I always tell them that they need to tie the knots at least 10 times before they know the knot then at outings I have them use the knots on there tents or I bring my knot rack for them to do the knots on.
  10. Thanks for your reply The book is geared at scouting but if i can find a knot that people think would help the boys i will Draw it out & ad it to the book.

  12. Hi All For the past two years I have been a Boy Scout leader in Chicago, before that I had 3 years in cub scouts Where I was given the task of showing the boys how to tie knots never being a boy scout or cub scout I never had to tie specific knots before so I looked at the scout book to do them my self and found it hard to follow how to tie the knots so after trying & trying to do it I finally got it. But I figured that if it was hard for me to do then what do you think the kids go thru to do it. By trade I am a drafts man so I decided to make my own book to help the boys. I nam
