  1. We have a young den chief that basically went straight from cubs to being a den chief. He's having a really hard time separating himself from the cubs. For instance he asked if he could put his name in the drawing for prizes at one event. How would you handle the situation?

  2. I guess they just haven't taken off in our area. Not just our Pack.

I like the idea of the tan fishing vests.

But we have a hard enough time getting them in official uniform to ask parents to shell out for vests.

There are trophies given out at the parade. The boys get excited over the competition with the girl scouts. I guess I thought looking uniform without the vests would be preceived better.

  3. Ok rule came out stronger than I meant. What I had in mind was what you stated. In the newsletter request uniforms, but no vests.

BTW - I'm a little offended by your remark. We care too much about each kid and there are not very many in our Pack that even have the vests.

  4. So it's ok to set a Pack rule that states when not to wear them? For instance we would like to request they not wear them at the parade, so we present a uniform group.

  5. How do you get all the info out and avoid announcements at Pack events?

We do send a monthly newsletter, but not everyone reads it or supposedly gets it.

Some times we do hand outs at meetings.

    We have a website.

But we still have complaints of people not getting all the info.

  6. Typically the Cubmaster in our Pack does all the talking. On occasion that role is given to someone else. Ex. popcorn kickoff - the popcorn chair talks the most. At graduation the CC felt that was their job. The rest of us chime in if CM missed anything or want to add to it.

  7. We don't have access to fountain supplies.

We're in the process of talking to the Boy Scouts. They normally sell drinks. We don't want to step on any toes. Hopefully we will have the CS popcorn booth next to the BS booth. So if we just have popcorn, we're covered. If we sell drinks we'll get a form.

  8. I agree on the price. Our intention is not to make a ton on drinks. If we buy them for less than $.25 and sell out at $.50, then we don't have to store them and still make a profit. We plan to pop some of the popping corn and sell it for $.25. The main focus is the popcorn. Since we can't do Blitz like most Packs do, we're giving this a shot.

  9. Would this fall under the popcorn fundraising or do we have to fill out a form because in addition to popcorn we will have drinks. It is scheduled for Blitz day. Since the majority of the town will be at the fest we decided to set up a booth.

Yes there will be several other booths with soft drinks. I've heard another booth sells around 400, but they have ribs, chicken etc.

  10. We have a little over 2 monthes to get ready. Target has a great deal on Pepsi products this week. That's what brought the subject up. At $.22 a can, we can easily sell them for $.50 and make a good profit. I'm sure we can use them for other events if we have some left, but that means we have to store them.

  11. Our small town (around 1200 people) is having a street fest. We plan to set up a small booth and sell popcorn and soft drinks. They'll be several other food booths. How many drinks would you plan on having?

  12. We threw one together last year. We didn't have much time, so we borrowed a flat trailer, threw a small tent up, put a tree in the front corner and covered it with red, white and blue and cub scout paper ornaments. We put streamers on it but they didn't look so good after we started moving. If we had taped them more they probably would have stayed longer. The wire red and green garland worked pretty good.

  13. It's hard to inforce complete uniform when the pants don't fit everyone. No husky sizes in kids is a problem. Also our CM is too tall for switchbacks. (I hear that will go away with the new uniform)

Due to cost and the rate these kids grow, we're pushing the Walmart and Target navy cargo pants.

We pushed if you were not in your uniform shirt, neckerchef and nice pants you would not receive rank at graduation. Surprisingly not 1 showed up in a pack t-shirt.

  14. What do you typically do at roundup?

We are considering showing a video that has tons of pictures from this past year. Talk to the kids and their parents and then send the kids to do crafts or games and have the leaders talk to the parents.
