  1. We had a scout that put out boxes at the schools in our district the last week or two of school. He collected notebooks, markers, crayons, pencil, ... that otherwise might have gone into the garbage dumpster. He then organized a night to sort through all the items. He also had the sewing group at his church sew back packs. Then one Saturday, he had us basically go down an assembly line and put specific numbers of each item in the bag. They were sent to Haiti for school kits for the children.
  2. In our local scout shop, blue jeans with the BSA logo are on sale for $9.99 while switchbacks are $34.99. There is a large sign on the jeans display saying that these are NOT approved uniform. Why can they sell jeans for $10 when uniform pants are $35?? Seems to me there is a lot of profit baked in to many of the products offered at the local shops. I am still amazed at the time and expense taken to make all of the merit badge books full color. The black and white versions contained virtually the same material for a lower price. In these tough economic times, we should be focused
  3. The only problem I can see with this is when other scouts get wind of it and try to get their parents to do the same. "Johnny's parents pay him $x.xx for every merit badge." Even if some parents would like to do this as incentive, some families just can't afford it, especially in today's economy. Little Johnny should be told it is a family decision and if other scouts hear of it, the deal is off.
  4. I have the SS-4 form from the IRS, but I'm not sure how to fill in some of the blanks. Can someone who has obtained an EIN help me out? 3. Executer, ...."care of" name 4a Mailing address Do I use the CO's? They wouldn't let us use their EIN in the first place. So, I don't know if we would get any correspondence if it is sent to the CO. Do I use our Committee Chair's address, the Treasurer's address ??? Any thoughts?
  5. I recently took over as treasurer for my son's troop. When I went to the bank to sign the signature card for the checking account, the bank asked for our EIN number. I went to our scoutmaster. He told me to call the council. The council said that we should use our chartered organization's EIN. The chartered org won't give me their EIN number. What do I do now?
