  1. I think Sea Bear summed it all up..........if you have someone (Catholic) in your pack who is willing to become a religious emblems counselor.......that would be a plus.......or maybe there is one for the District...I Think the emblem for cubs is the Light of Christ.........it's be awhile since i have been involved with cubs..........

  2. Nothing has happened outside of scouting with this youth..........I know he is a good kid.........these others are a mystery to me.....perhaps ASM's? perhaps some committe members who sit regularly on Eagle Scot BOR's.

This youth is being held back probably because of his age? This whole situation is just unbelievable...... I think this kid has done well in scouting because it something he loves and has met EVERY SINGLE REQUIREMENT FOR EAGLE SCOUT and yet has been held back fo 60 days for what? The maybe it will be another 60 days and another.

Maybe he is being held up because he does not fit the mold of what some people believe is an Eagle Scout. I know he is not very mechanically inclined could that be it....... It is just so very unfair to this boy........who knows he is so downhearted right now....he may leave.......I thought we were supposed to help kids advance......not hold them to some sort of mysterious ideal standard

  3. I have seen it all now...........SM refuses to sign off at Eagle Scout Scoutmaster's Conference..........Scout is almost 3 weeks away from being 16 has earned 31 merit badges, 2 religious medals OA member (ordeal)

has attended 5 summer camps has repeatedly show scout spirit by attending activities, working fundraisers scouting for food, flag ceremonies.you name it and of course has completed his approved eagle scout project...... and leadership position. SM says he is not ready and needs to remove all doubt expressed by others others............ 22 merit badges now needed for Eagle.........Remove all doubt....?? Told him to come back in 60 days after assigning him to work with specific younger scouts...........Why is this boy being held to a higher standard than what is required by BSA.........? SM wishes to remove doubt so that his BOR will go smooth? Is the SM doing him a favor by helping him this way or is it time to throw in the towel?

  4. In my humble opinion, the very first piece of equipment you should buy is a first aid kit.......... make one up from scratch in a small plastic tackle or tool box....no rust!

I do not think it would be a good idea to fund raise for individual needs....you are opening yourself up for a lot of conflict...such as having parents up in arms over who is more deserving......kids upset because he got so and so and i did not.....

Many good lists on the net as far as equipment for your troop.....tents,ground clothes, stoves, lanterns, cook kits.............much of which you could put together any any good flea market.......

I admit i do not know much about LDS and what fundraising is allowed.... but fundraising every week is a bit out of ordinary.... try maybe once every quarter according to the seasons for example.....holiday greenery in the winter....... spaghetti dinner in the fall etc.

As far as CC our district offers committee chairman training...............also check with your local area troops to see if they have gently used equipment that they may want to part with

  5. Very interesting data........ I would be curious to know exactly where Emergency Preparedness ranked...........seems this badge is always one of the last that our Life Scouts do in order to become an Eagle candidate

  6. I agree with the previous posters who challenge the words...Paper Eagle.......As it has been noted before our duty is promote the success of our scouts and hand in hand a retention of those at a higher rank to help the newbies.I also agree that Jrs and Srs in high school are very busy......if the program is working well according to the directives established by the Boy Scouts of America you will see the higher ranks looked up to by the younger ones. It is this sense of accomplishment that will help the older scouts stay on.

  7. We have a core group of Life Scouts who will be entering their junior year in high school..... they are all very close to being 16..... These kids are dedicated and have worked hard.......Eagles probably by the end of the year........they have committed themselves to scouting and yes with the 3W's coming....... Wheels,Women,Work.....I feel they will become JASM's and continue to grow in the program

  8. I also believe that a large troop is the by product of an excellent scouting program. Many cub dens seek us out to join . we have visitors at almost troop meeting........ but the bottom line - just like anything else - the more effort and work you put into your troop/program -- the better off you will be
