I would like to share the following with everyone:

Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event.

We received the following reply from the local TARGET management:

Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action groups, gay&lesbian causes, and education.

If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general do not meet their donation criteria, then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters and their response was the same. Thats their national policy.

Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the Marines to collect for Toys for Tots'at any of their stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families of employees who were called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage while they were on miltary service. Then as I dig further,TARGET is a French-owned corporation.

This was an e-mail sent to me. I can verfiy the the statment that TARGET made. This past summer our popcorn chair made a phone call to our local TARGET and asked if our troop could sell popcorn at their store and thats the same answer they gave us "that we do not meet their donation criteria.

If TARGET can not support Boy Scouts and American Veterans, they why should I and my family support thir stores by spending our hard earned American dollars and have their profits sent to France. Without the American Vets, where would France be today. Something to think about when you are out doing your shopping.

I would like to wish everone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

As a member of our county's USMCR Toys for Tots Committee, and a former chaiman of the campaign, I can tell you that what has been said about Target Stores is a lie.

Target not only is a major supporter but gives generous discounts to organizations purchasing toys for our kids. Thay also host special events to support us each year.

They have been an excellent participant in our community for a number of charitable organizations including Toys for Tots.

It's disgusting that should be slandered in this manner. Beaver1onit you have done them a terrible injustice in represented this event as actually happing to you, when it obviously did not.

I believe that "rumor" is at least one year old.

BW, did you hear about the former Marine who would wear his dress blues to various locations collecting for the Toy for Tots program. He was skimming off the top and caught with about $2,000 in his pockets. He was not officially working for the TFT program.

I'm proud to say that our place of business just donated over $43,000 dollars worth of cash/toys to the local Toy for Tots program. Merry Christmas everyone!

$43,000 Thats fantastic, you should be very proud of their participation.

Our largest single contributor is the UAW Labor Union. They raised nearly $20,000 each year. Target then hosts them for a huge toy buy where they give special discounts to them. We end up with about dozen pick-up trucks piled high with toys. It's a blast. Today, I was going around picking up the cash donations to start next years toy buys with.

Have a very Merry Christmas.

It looks like beaver1onit may have just copied and pasted an email into his post. So, he may not have deliberately misled everyone into believing this happened to him. I bet the email or where ever it came from was written in first person.

Looking over some of beaver's other posts, he doesn't seem to be a trouble maker or a malicious forum member at all. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and I hope he continues to post.

If nothing else, if I hear this rumor again, then I'll know there is no truth to it.
