What does the phrase "included overnight camping" mean in the Second and First Class Rank requirements? Example: Would a weekend spent in a cabin at the local Scout Camp be considered as camping overnight?

Yes, any event done with the troop or patrol outside of the regular troop meeting is counted. The added point of counting overnight camping is because participation in campouts is another requirement and you need to know that the campouts are counted toward both requirements.

The discusion that prompted this quiestion was wether or not camping overnight means camping in a tent or not.

I'm sorry I explained that incorrectly. Yes cabin camping counts as overnight camping.

However there there are other requirements that require camping overnight specifically in tents (Tenderfoot 2, Second Class 2b) for those requirements cabin camping would not be permissible.

And dont forget that cabin camping nights dont count towards the camping merit badge either

Cabin camping does not count toward OA camping requirement either.
