  1. Folks, In Australia we "run" both girls and boys in the Troops and whilst it brings forward a number of boy/girl issues, it also highlights the weaknesses in poor old Scout Leaders, but we're having fun! I need some fresh ideas to program into the Troop's initiative nights (read Klondike Derby but run in the desert!). I would love to hear from Scouters who may be able to expand our current collection of challenges or initiative games to stretch the patrols and expand their horizons. The next Troop Council is on 4th April and I would really appreciate some feedback. Yours in
  2. In AUstralia we use these stoves as a cheap alternative to the Trangia stoves. You should be aware however that they have some serious drawbacks that require careful management, including: No cap so one has to burn all the fuel to prevent leaking in the pack Kids can't simmer their food as these stoves are either "on" or "off" One needs to make an additional stand to accommodate a pot (billy in Australia) The fuel could leak whilst cooking meaning one could start a nice little bushfire when one leasts expects it. Having said that, we love making them, and have a lot of joy usin
