  1. First off- as the originator of this thread I wanted to say thanks. I printed it out and provided it to the SM. I wanted to report back to all who have posted on the thread that last night at our Troop committee meeting we voted to stop the pushups. It was a very difficult discussion. The meeting included Our SPL and PLs. We had lots of discussion about who could give pushups or not give pushups. We spoke when pushups had a positive and/or negative affect. Finally people started to realize that the pushups may provide an immediate recognition that they did something wrong, but it did not have
  2. Our Troop has lost Scouts who A: could not do a push up (not physically fit) and B: Where so upset that the SPL was giving them pushups , they stopped coming.
  3. I agree with your statement. I don't see it teaching anything. If a Scout doesn't show up in uniform then it should be reflected in a SM Conference or at the Board of Review under Scout Spirit. We have had Scouts quite because of this. The other aspect is that it is the Senior Scouts who hand out the pushups. What are they learning about leadership by telling someone they have to perform pushups?
