  1. While at summer camp I saw a troop from Rhode Island that had exactly what you mention. They were tan strips with red embroidery. They were much smaller than the GI name tags and looked very sharp. I hope someone can name a source.(This message has been edited by cimarron8889)

  2. Thanks for the replies.

Basically, the boys have fund raised for the trip but now will be Boy Scouts on the date that we were able to reserve for the trip.

I should have used former Webelos in my last sentence of my question.

    I totally agree with:

"IMO if you let Webelos cross-over to "nothing" just to cross at the Blue and Gold, then it's a dis-service to the Webelos that joined a Scout Troop at the Blue and Gold."

But that does not apply to my question.

  3. Looking to see how other Packs and Troops handle this.

We historically have crossed the Webelos over to the Troop at the Blue and Gold Banquet in February or March.

This years Pack overnight trip will be late April 2010.

What issues might we face if the just crossed over Scouts attend?

  4. The whole number fiasco was a terrible roll-out from National.

Eagle92 and I commented at length on this in the spring when for a short period of time there were pictures of Cub Leaders with tan and red numbers.

All those registered to a Cub Pack should wear red numerals regardless of uniform color and all those registered to a Scout Troop should wear tan numerals with both the Centennial and ODL uniform.

I believe as leaders we should set the correct example as the situation will invariably arise that Little Joey has the incorrect color numeral because his Mom bought what she saw on Mr. Cub Master's incorrect uniform.(This message has been edited by cimarron8889)

  5. We have been experiencing problems with the boys losing temporary insignia which was hanging off the right hand pocket on the Centennial Uniform. The Centennial Uniform has one button on the back of the velcro pocket flap. Looped patches have come off during games and other activities. This was not a problem with the previous shirts as the patch hanger was "sandwiched" between the pocket and the flap. Has anyone else experienced this or developed any solutions? I was thinking of some type of stiff washer perhaps.

  6. Well, it seems that things are slowly getting cleared up and they might actually make sense.

Eagle92 and I bounced around comments on this issue two weeks ago when I saw the now defunct red and tan numbers.

Reading this thread it seems that the following statement can be said:

"All those registered in a Cub Scout Pack wear red and white numerals regardless of shirt color and all those registered in a Boy Scout Troop wear green and tan numerals."

Is that how you would interpret Eagle92?

  7. To think two sentences could solve months of speculation and misinformation.

"Those in blue CS uniforms, yellow and blue female CS leader uniforms, and Venturers wear the red and whites. Those in in tan shirts wear tan and green, and Sea Scouts don't wear any per national policy."

  8. Eagle92,

I found the PDF last week.

This whole numbers issue is really showing incompetence at National.

Now we will have red/white, tan/green and tan/red numerals with absolutely no clear cut non-contradicting instructions of who wears what. The insignia guide and supply photos show multiple inconsistencies.

This is what national should say in my opninion.

    ALL BLUE SHIRTS WEAR RED/WHITE

    ALL TAN SHIRTS WEAR TAN/GREEN

  9. I have to say I am disappointed at how the Centennial Uniform was rolled out along with the long wait for the new inspection sheets and new Insignia Guide.

I found numerous discrepancies and errors in the new Insignia Guide. A good editor familiar with Scouting could easily have corrected them.

  10. It does give the impression that red numerals can be worn on the Centennial Uniform. If they wanted olive green numbers they should have done a negative image and had dark numbers on a lighter border in the picture of sleeve set-ups. They also could have stated the correct protocol in the unit numeral section.

Hopefully the new Insignia Guide will settle it.
