Ok the hat came today and it is great. Just what you would expect for its age. I'm going to have it cleaned and blocked and in a couple of years when my Webelos grandson crosses over to a troop I will present it to him. He tried it on today and it almost covered his eyes, think he will grow into it though. Now I just have to find an adult version for me .

I picked this up on E-Bay for $37 and I can't wait for it to get here. I was going to wear my dads old hat but the moths got to it first. I still have it but it isn't wearable unfortunately so I will keep it as a memento of him. He wore it while in the Army Pre-ww2 and it is a real Smokey the Bear hat.

Thank you everyone who replied. I think it will be more useful if I spend some time with the pack before I consider Wood Badge. I have a lot to learn and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I will definitely talk to the CM and the council folks. They are an asset I plan on making a lot of use of.

Could someone please explain exactly what Wood Badge is and why a volunteer should consider doing it. I'm new at this, old, and extremely dumb so use small words and short sentences please .

After 27 years out of the program I am back. I was involved with my son when he was a boy and now I'm here for my grandson. We lost his father last year and when the little guy asked me who was going to take him to be a Cub Scout I couldn't say no. There has been some changes and this time I have been taking advantage of all the training that is offered. I think this will help me do a better job this time.
